Took my new PT 185 out on the water for the first time, it was an electric only lake and quite windy, the only way to get the boat loaded on the trailer was to put the trailer in the water with 1/3 of the bunk out of the water and winch the boat all the way up.

Is this okay for the Boat and trailer, could this damage either?

Also, is it possible to overtighten the transon tie-downs?

Shouldn't damage anything.

I don't like to tighten the transom tie downs so tight that they seem like they'll pop at any moment. I like to cinch them up nice and tight but just to the point that it's easy to fold the lock strap down over not to the point I have to fight it to get it down.

CJ-

I usually back the trailer in till the tops of the fenders are even with the water. That seems to be the best spot for ease of loading, and keeping the wind from blowing it off of the trailer.Just experiment a little to find out where it is best for you.

Tip-back the trailer in far enough to wet the whole trailer bunks and pull back forward and the boat will slide on alot easier.

Once you get some practice there is no reason to get your feet wet.I do about %75 of my fishing by myself, and I never go in the water.

CJ, I second what Steve R. said. I back my trailer down until the tops of the fenders are either even with the water or just above the water (about 2/3") depending on the ramp. Then I just ride up until the boat stops, tilt the O/B up just a little and EASE on up to front roller. The reason that I emphisise (sp?) EASE UP, is that there is no need to power up and risk damaging anything. I've seen guys hit their trailer so hard the their tow vehicle jumps, no need for all of that.

Also, as Soonerfan said, you will have her filled up with tackle before you know it.

Enjoy the new ride.

Steve
