Well, I finally got a new Nitro 700LX DC!! Got the 90hp motor and couldn't be happier. Now, I'm just wondering if anyone else has a similar boat/motor combo and can tell me what kind of speed I should be getting.

Everything about the boat is great, but why does Tracker Marine install those cheap trolling motors? Mine has way too much flex at the bracket which makes too much noise in my opinion. Any comments on this?

Thanks!

Welcome aboard Charles and congratulations on the new boat. Don't have that boat/motor combination but I do lurk and post occasionally on rec.outdoors.fishing.bass newsgroup. There's probably a few here with what you got and will be able to answer. Good fishin'

Congratulations on the new boat. You picked a great combination that will last for years. As far as the trolling motor, they are very good just a bit noisy. To calm down the bracket noise, I first adjusted the motor to a minimum depth that would still pull the boat. The farther the motor is from the clamp the the more leverage and the more shock on the brackets when stopping and starting. Next I found some nylon washers at Lowes and used them as shims between the metal brackets where the brackets are pinned to the base and at the clamp. It's not perfect but it is a lot quieter than out-of-the-box. Good luck.

Congrats on the new boat. The 700 is a nice rig. A litle wider and faster then the 170 I have, so you should be very happy with it.

I would guess a speed of around the high 40's low 50's depending on load and prop you are using.

As for the trolling motor. If you got the stock 12volt motor. Sooner or later your gonna want to change it anyway. so Shim it as best you can to make it as quiet as you can and count the days till you put on a 24 volt motor with 70+ pounds of thrust....;o)

Have fun

Congrats and welcome. Check the owners section of the site for folks with your set up. I know there a couple here.

Charles - Welcome to the best site on the NET!

I checked Nitro's web site (www.nitro.com) And the 700 w/90HP shows top end of 46-49mph. Remember to follow the breakin proceedure CAREFULLY (check out mine in the Grab Bag).

Congrats and welcome aboard...go with the shims to quiet her down some.

Thanks everyone for the congrats, and for the info on shimming the trolling motor brackets. The boat isn't wired for 24v, so I'm thinking that maybe I'll just mount my familiar 40lb Minn Kota AT. That's a cool motor and pushed my Alumaweld around with no problems.

I don't carry too much extra weight around other than my heavy bag full of plastics, LOL. That thing is outweighing my tacklebox now. It's also too big to fit in any of the compartments. Does anyone know if there's a plastic tackle tray that will fit neatly in any of the compartments? I get kinda particular about neatness, and I have to be able to read the fronts of the boxes.

Thanks again everyone!

Welcome I have the same boat.I run a 22p lazer2 prop. I run 50 mph with a full load. Three batterys full livewell and gas you may think of the se300 fin from bass pro to help getting on top faster. I did and cut time in half. You'll love the boat. Ken

Congratulations... I have a 700LX with the 90 HP... I usually get about 49 to 51 mhp out of it depending on load, etc. My prop is an aluminum 12.25 X 23P. I have a few others but this prop is the best compromise overall and gives the best top end for me. With a full livewell, and full tank of gas it is a little sluggish out of the hole, but overall it's a great setup. I've used my boat at Istokpoga quite a bit in central Florida and if you know the lake, you know whitecaps well. The boat handles with no trouble and can take it when it needs to. You'll be very happy with the rig. Mine is a year 2000 that I bought new off the showroom floor in March of 2000 and it's been washed and garage stored after every fishing trip. I've waxed the boat 2X since I've owned it and the coat looks as nice as the day I brought it home. Last weekend I was asked how I liked my brand new boat. LOL. If you take care of your boat it will last you for a long time. Congratulations again!
