The water level in the Atchafalaya Basin was so low that, when I backed up my trailer at the landing to unload my boat (04 Nitro 700LX) the wheels dropped off the landing edge and the front crossmember of the trailer also went past the edge before the boat floated off. I wasn't aware of this and when I went to drive forward, the front crossmember of the trailer was hitting the egde of the concrete. I thought it was the wheels. I couldn't go forward so I put it in 4WD low, backed up a bit, and gunned it. Well, the trailer popped over the edge and the front crossmember was knocked back almost 12" with the crossmember welds broken open.

This is the galvanized trailer.

I was wondering if Nitro will sell a trailer w/o the wheels and axle assemble, just the trailer frame. Any dealers or people in the know online? Should I make this an insurance claim?

I was getting ready to trade up to a bigger boat and everything was in great shape until this happened.

I would call the insurance company and see what they say.

Mine paid for a new transmission when my wife bottomed out on a speed bump, and broke the mounts off of the case.It would have cost me about a grand to have my guts put into a new transmission case.

Insurance paid all but $100 .

I would also check a welding/machine shop to see if they can repair it,Or make you a new frame.Sometimes it's suprising how much cheaper AND better something like that can be built for.

It is, generally speaking, very difficuly to get just a trailer. Contact your local dealer and your insurance company. If you have to go with another brand trailer, I've heard Shorelander trailers are pretty good...
