Hey everyone, with the knowledge base on this board, I'm sure to get a fair eval. As you may have noticed, my friend Jamey has been on, and has finally listened to me long enough to save his $$$ to get a boat. Well he got the "itch" bad. He found an 18 or 19 ft Astro, ('89 I think) in VA with a 200 merc on it and Jack plate. Boat is loaded and only $5900. I haven't heard much about Astros let alone, late models. Any input? Aren't they lighter boats? Hows the ride? Will it survive Champlain? It also totes mid 70's speed with the plate. Don't know the set back, probably 6". This is a big jump up for Jamey but I'm sure he will find a way to adapt! LOL Again any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob

Rob,we have a few astros owners in our local tourneys and most of them love there boats.I believe they are a lighter compared to ranger and champion but they seem to handle just fine when we fish a tourney on lake erie.I heard they quit making astros boats, did procraft buy them out?? running 70mph is awesome for ride in any boat, just hope for sake he bought a dual console, them lady bugs tend to hurt your forehead when they hit ya at that speed :)

If I remember correctly Tracker boats bought out Astro.

Tracker (the Marine Group) does own Astro, you can check the news ones out at http://www.themarinegroup.com/tmg2002/index.cfm

So if Jamey buys this Astro, can we let him fish the rally from it, so he can get a formal introduction/education into tourney fishing? LOL Sorry Jamey, but like I've been saying, it's different world when theres money on the line, no matter the amount. We're all Roland Martin until it's time to weigh in. I learned that the hard way. Got humbled real bad on my own lake in a fed tourney 2 years ago!

Hey Trepman,

Thanks for helping me out. After I posted that I thought maybe I had lost my mind!!
