Several years ago, my wife and I were involved in a Couples Bass Club here in the Carolinas. One of the couples we met and socialized with (Jim and Mary Storch), we grew to have a nice friendship with. We shared a cottage on a weekend trip once, and have been over to see/visit with them several times, even though the couples club did not survive.
He taught me more than one thing about fishing (techniques) and also provided me with one of the most interesting top water baits that I have (I'll have to dig one out and take a picture of it later).
Several years ago, Jim was diagnosed with cancer of the liver. He has been up and down with it (and the treatments), but he was able to return to work last year and was doing better. As is usually the case, the illness came back once again, and during the last week, he went downhill quickly. Got a call yesterday, that he had passed away.
While not the dearest friend that I have; and also not one that I knew the longest, Jim was just one of those folks that you really enjoyed sharing a boat with - yours or his. Even when we would get skunked. One of my fondest memories of Jim will always be Christmas before last at their house, when he spent over an hour showing me his personal collection of 'Official Boy Scout Knives'. I'm sure that his son will appreciate the memories that it will bring him of his Dad.
Just really wanted to pay a little tribute, to one of the better people that I have known in my time. I'm better off for having known him, and will miss not being able to share a boat with him in the future.
I applaud his life, and his friendship to me. Tight lines and rest easy - Jim.
