When my boat is out of the water, my live well drains slowly when my aerator is running. It does not drain fast but it drains nonetheless. Is this the way the live well works or do I have a problem?

Thanks!

Somewhat confusing question. When you say, 'out of the water', are you referring to on the trailer?

If draining, why is the aerator on?

For the most part, if it's draining, I wouldn't worry about fast or not, quite a few are notably slow. Unless it is really slow. If it has a steady flow, even if slow, I wouldn't be concerned. If it's just dribs/drabs, you may have some blockage that needs to be cleaned out.

More info needed.

Get plugs to keep the water in. You should have an overflow for when the water reaches the top. Sometimes the shut off valve sticks or doesn't seal properly and the water won't stay. You should be able to fill it and pull it out on the trailer and not lose any water. I can fill mine and trailer to weigh ins 20 miles away while on recirc and not lose any water.

What type of 'drain' do you have? I have a 'leaking' problem on my front livewell, but it's whenever water is in it (does not have to be a pump running).

Mine has a screw 'on' fitting, with a wire mesh screen covering it. Turns out, it's the 'exact size and depth' of a 'pipe cap' (rubber with hose clamp) available from Home Depot (or probably any good hdw store). It fits like it's made for it.

The drain control valve always gets clogged or something and eventualy leaks. You can locate the drain control, valve take it off and clean it. That is probably what the dealer will do first. You cal also adjust the cable in case stretching of the cable has occurred. I would say under normal conditions if it is holding for 2 hours your doing pretty good. If you need the water for longer than two hours get a plug.

Mine stopped to a dribble last week. I finally dug a Bud Lite beer bottle cap in the hole. I don't drink, don't allow drinking in my boat. The only thing that day in the livewell was a 2 pound bass. Go figure.

Hmm Fatrap... So it was probably a 1lb bass with 12 OZ of Bud Lite in him!!! Did he BURP a lot!!! LOL

ORRRRRR, you could do like Scott and Trep and just not catch any fish and use your livewell as a cooler! Just a thought. LOL Sorry Trep, too easy.
