I have a Targa 17 w/t 2003.Iwant to put a kicker on it.Anyone have one on yet?I would like any opinoins out there

There is an article in Walleye Insider last issue...

I use an older 2 stroke OMC 9.9 hp on my 19' Magna... My tournanment artner uses a Merc 4 stroke 9.9...

You need to consider motor height and placement to decide about shaft length... Although most will agree that a longer shaft is usually a benefit...

The premiere kicker is probably the Yamaha T8 all decked out with 20/25" shaft, electric start and power trim and tilt... Whether you get a separate remote control set or just use a Trollmaster (electronic throttle adjustment setup) depends on your styles of fishing... Backtrollers like to use the tiller and front trollers usually use some connection to the big motor and the wheel...

So, tell me more about your "need" for a kicker, what you want it to do for you? Then I can give you some more specific ideas to consider...

i have a 8hp merc on the back of mine, and for a backup it is it.for trolling,it gets down to 1.1mph,if i need to i throw out the bag or the 2 5 gallon buckets if need be.

the best thing to do is see what you need,in the line of hp restriction lakes and such, then go from there.around here in pa we have 10hp and under lakes,so that and the price i paid for the motor was my deciding factor.i got remote throttles, and steering connected to the main motor.it pushes the 19 around 6 mpg on the gps, with the present prop on it.

mounting it on the straight transom was a bracket all its own,for your transom, you will have to find another like it with a kicker and see how they did it.my shaft length is barely long enough but works out great.mine is plumbed into the main tank,so no worry about running out of gas unless dummy forgets to put gas in it,but also no kicking around the tank for the kicker either.

On my Targa 17 I have a 125 and a 5 hp 2 stroke mounted on the transom, standard shaft length works great no remote controll just a steering bar between them

i would go with the long shaft just to be sure you would have enough prop in the water in rough water conditions.remember to keep the exaust ports on the top of the engine above water though.the other factor is the ability to tilt th motor up when running with the big motor.here is a picture of my home made bracket,it might not look pretty, but has been on there since 98,and intended on making it out of aluminum, but hell,it works, dont screw with it!

here is the linkage for the steering,it works great.get the ezsteer system that hooks to the exsisting holes in the front of the motors.all you have to do is bend it to fit and for turning radius .
