In one of the posts below, I asked TrepMan about the inexpensive digital camera he carries: The JamCam.

I found a ton of these new over on e-bay..... Anyone know of any problems with them? Why some many available?

me?

I'll chime in from my experience, had mine for a year with ZERO problems. I think the problem is that this JamCam (which is a 1/2 megapixel) and does NOT have 1) a memory card of anykind or 2) a viewscreen - which retails for $100.00 is now a year old. I've recently seen 1.2-1.3 megapixel cameras WITH memory cards and view screens for about $100 on sale. So, it's a yearold technology and cheaper.

The only problems i've had (beside it eats 9Volts about every 2 months) is when I got to upload pic's to my PC, every once in a while it skips a few pics. All I have to do is tell it to reload the pictures and VIOLA everything is there!

I got it because it's 1) cheap, 2) rugged, 3) takes decent on-water pic's of fish and family and 4) was small.

I think it was Rob or MO who had one and never got it to work right?

Twasn't me. I've got the use of a regular old Olympus digital camera with a memory card that'll take up to 72 pictures in JPEG or 36 TIF format. Must've been Rob.

OK - I know i'm old and senile, but SOMEONE posted they had one and didn't like it. So instead of accusing someone else, i'll wait till the guilty party surfaces!

It was Marke Cicero! I did a search for JamCam and he talked about only getting 3 out of 8 pictures to upload off of his.

I have an HP although I don't have the model number right now. It DOES have a memory card and a view screen and it was only about $100. It was a good purchase and I'm happy with it. Wally world has them on display. If you need the model number, let me know...

Brian,

I'm using an HP as well. I believe it's a C200???

Works great! No complaints.

Here at the office, we have a Sony FD-83. It is one, great camera! I've got a Minolta waterproof 35mm that I bought 8 or 10 years ago that works very well. I just got to thinking that it sure would be a lot easier to take along a very inexpensive digital camera on the boat IF there was one that would do the job as well as my Minolta.

Scott, I gave my son a JamCam $50. for Christmas last year and even though it is a basic entry level digital camera he loved it. The picture quality is poor due to the low resolution, but it went over so well with him that for his birthday I replaced it with a Nikon 2500 $299 which is an awesome digital camera and perfect for a teenager. The camera with a 128MB memory card is perfect. We use a Nikon 990 which we love but can't wait for the D100 to hit the streets.

Lucky for you we do have 2 extra digital cameras laying around that we are willing to make a deal on. One is the JamCam and the other is a Kodak DC120 w/20MB memory which would get you at 23 pics at super high, 80 pics at high and 137 at meduim and 213 at the lowest resolution.

If you are interested drop me a line and we can talk.

It's amazing how the prices for these electronics have dropped. Our "good" digital camera, a Fuji 1200 (1.2 megapixels) with screen and zoom along with 2 8 meg memory cards was $300 3 years ago, the same camera now is $100.

Cass - for e-mail/web pictures i've been just happy with my JamCam, here is one from the JamCam. Now that's not to say the more expensive/higher resolution camera's don't look even better! But for me, something to have on the boat that might get wet/dropped in the lake (like my cell phone last weekend) i'd rather have something decent but cheap.

It's all up to the individual on what quality of pictures and what you need/want it for. If I was a guide and wanted a camera to use for brochure quality pictures, definetly NOT the JamCam.
