I agree that this doesn't sound like it was a problem centralized at Genmar/Ranger. It seemed to me that the dealer dropped the ball (whether intentionally or unintentionally, it doesn't matter to the buyer).
Isn't it somewhat humerous, though, to see the same dealer vs. manufacturer "who owns the problem" issues with another boat manufacturer? I think these kinds of issues are indemic to the whole bass boat industry.
Someone on another board also pointed out another reason why Tracker Marine has a not-so-envious quality control and customer service reputation. Tracker markets most of their boats at the entry-level, first-time boat owner. Could it be that first-time boat owners, as a group, have a higher incidence of problems (service, maintenance, repair) than those with experience? And, once they make all their mistakes and are ready to upgrade to another boat, they blame Tracker for their problems and jump ship to a different manufacturer. Then, once they have their second boat, they do things right (or better) and have fewer problems. Thus, the second boat is "Better" than their %"$#&%^ Tracker/Nitro!"
This doesn't cover all owners or types of problems, but it made me think about my own approach to use, service and maintenance as a first time NEW boat owner.
