I would like the view of "I Bleed black" on my prolem post on the 14th - '98 884 savage merc 150 EFI nitro series by gary

Thanks;

To take off from the last post on this subject, did you change the fuel lines and primer bulb?

Replaced fuel line and pump.

Ran fine first thing in the morning to the first fishing spot.

On the way to 2nd spot died, started right back up ran twenty feet died, all the way back to dock.

Had lunch went out again ran fine, then started dying again, problem is sporadic.

Any help would be appreciated.

Gary

How did the old hose innards look? Were they peeling off at all?

When it dies, do you have to prime the bulb in order to re-start?

OK...we're getting somewhere. Try another test. Have someone squeeze the primer bulb continually while you are operating the motor, not to the point of pressurizing a full bulb, but only as it starts to go soft. Just be careful and you don't have to go crazy fast to test, just where the problem happens. If the motor runs fine while testing I would recommend replacing the pulse fuel pump. Let me know... ;)

It seems to run better, however the bulb was going flat sometimes. I had my grandson back trying to pump it he's 12, I plan on trying again this week when my fishing partner can help. Is there anything visual I can check on the Pulse fule pump to determine if it is bad? Thanks, I appreciate your time.

Check the vent system on your tank. If the primer bulb goes flat and stays that way, there is either a venting or fuel restriction on your tank. If you have or could borrow a portable tank, plug it into your motor and give it a go.

So far I've found the pc value on the gas tank was not working at all, temporaily replaced it with one with no pc value, problem still exists, going to check the tank and see if it has slug on the bottom next. Was wondering if it could be the pulse fuel pump.

Any help is appreciated.

Find a portable tank with hose and bulb.......and try it!!!!

TFnally found a tank, tried it and it eems to work file, what's next? Thanks, Gary

So...if everything runs good with the portable...it can ONLY be:

1] A venting issue. Make sure it is open and clear with NO obstructions.

2] A fuel pick-up issue. Remove the pick-up in the tank and be sure it is clean with no blockage.

3] A cracked fuel tube pick-up. Aerating fuel, starving the motor.

4] Another faulty fuel line primer bulb. {I'm going to assume you used a different hose and bulb}

;)

I took to vent hose off the tank, blow compressed air throug it, with the gas cap of, air come out the vent good.........how is it vented with the gas cap on?

Tookout the fuel pick-up tube, clean, looked for cracks, did not see any.

Used same bulb and hose on new tank test which worked.

Still confusing.....................

Does your vent go through the cap, or is there a separate vent outlet? If it goes through the cap, replace it.

I put a new vented gas cap on, it did the same thing. I decided to go fishing using the spare tank that worked, this time it started dying again. It seems like when I first start out it will run for 5 or 10 minutes then it starts dying, it may run 10 seconds or 4 minutes. Help...............

Ok, back to square one. Since it now does it with the portable, the next "steps" are to replace the pulse pump and remove the VST and clean it thoroughly. You have a few different problems going on, and we will get there..... someday.....:blink:

OK, finally got the parts, installed, ran much better and longer, however it is still dying occasionally, once or twice ever thirty minutes. Anything else I should try.

Thanks;

The pump looked OK, the springs where much tighter then the new ones, the new plastic flippers are more pliable then the old nylon ones. The VST produced very dark gas/oil when first drained, but after repeated filling and draining it come out normal.

Run a heavy concentration of sea-foam through the system and use it.......may have some sticky injectors....

OK..........finally took it to a mechanic and found out it was a bad computer shorting out the fuel pump. With new computer it runs OK, but will only push the boat at 45 mph, everyone says that it should be in the fifties, any thoughts...........Thanks
