How much tackle is to much? I have one bag that holds 5 3700's with pockets in it I can store everything else I need. One bag approx. (bps 370 pro-qualifer)14"h x 14"w x 22"l and 3 or 4 rods. and my suspenders which I were all the time. To much ?? yes/no

I dont think it is. I have seen guys carry lots more then that. When i go as a non boater(a rarity) i carry a bag that holds more then 5 3700's but i pack everything in it, tackle, rain gear, lunch etc i bring between 4 and 5 rods. as a boater i dont care how much stuff theyt have i have room for it, i give the non boater a compartment in the back and let them put lunch in my on board cooler, i also have a dual console and a big bag fits under it easily.

Sorry guys I should have said co-angler during a tournement.

jim,

i have what seems like to be 100 coolers, but NONE of them fit in either of the 2 rear compartments beside the livewells. is your cooler built in to one of those compartments or what? any ideas?

This is what I know take to federation tourneys and when I'm a co-angler in my local club.

6 Combo's. If I'm fishing with a buddy in my club that I know has more room, I may take one or two more if a 2 day tournament.

One tackle bag with 5 Plano 360 boxes in it. It's a smaller bag with several end pockets (zippered), etc. I have 2 bottles of scent, terminal tackle, pliers, etc. and some misc. stuff in addition.

One small worm bag (BPS 'medium' size - not the BIG one). I keep worms, tubes, trailers, hooks, etc. in it, along with spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.

I also have one backpack (not a big one, but a good one). It has rainsuit, food, water, safety equipment, gps, batteries, goggles, eyeglass stuff, etc. in it. I EXPECT that the boater will have ONE comparment for me to stow my backpack in. Not too much to ask. If he doesn't, the backpack goes in my seat when fishing, otherwise, on the floor under my legs when riding.

And I always take my own lifejacket. I can carry everything myself, if needed. Lifejacket on then backpack; tackle box over the shoulder/in left hand along with worm bag, and rod's (I use the BPS rod wraps to bind them together) in my right hand.

When fishing the Federation, I do not know who my boater will be until all the boats are launched, generally. Therefore, I don't get the advantage of stowing everything neatly in the parking lot.

I think that's about right. I have fished as co-angler and vice versa and feel as long as no-one is anyone's way(especially rods). Tackle can usually be put out of the way but too many rods makes for a cluttered deck. If your a co-angler...you may want to ask if you have more than two rods if you can store them in a locker til' ready. Although it may only take a few minutes to re-tie..it adds up at the end of the day..and you could use that time "fishin'".

I myself can get by on three...but, usually like to keep an oddball ready.

mine is built in under the passenger seat on my 882. the seat hinges forward and theres no carpet in the compartment. its meant to be used as a cooler, its insulated and drains into the bilge. all you need to do is add drinks and ice and your all set. mine can hold a 12 pack of soda and some watrer bottles and lunch and i can still get 3 bags of ice in.

I think it depends on your boater. I fish with a guy that brings 4-5 rods per tournament, a tackle bag like yours, and a cooler.

As a boater i make sure i have enough storage for him so my deck and boat isn't cluttered. I also expect the co-angler to keep his stuff organized as to not clutter the boat with his stuff. I have a bigger boat so this isn't a problem usually.

Talk to the boater before you go or the day before the tournament. Every draw tournament i have every fished usually the co-angler asks me where and what type of fishing we will be doing and brings tackle to fit this situation.

My biggest pet peave about a co-Angler, when i tell them we are getting ready to leave, i always give a few minutes warning, and he's still on the back with his line in the water while i'm sitting in the driver seat waiting.

Good Luck

thanks jim.

i knew it wasn't water tight storage there, but i didn't know it was insualted for a cooler. i will give it a try the next time out.

Gross,

Talk to your boater and see what kind of fishing he will be doing and you should be able to eliminate some of the gear that you wont ever use. And ask him if he has storage room set aside for co-anglers ( i always have some space for them) he will be able to asist you in what to bring. 4 rods should not be a problem at all, just remember that your the one that is gonna have to have your gear in your fishing area on the back deck or under the passenger console. I fish the BFL and Everstarts and i have never had a problem with any of my co-anglers. You'd be surprised at how much tackle you can get into 2 medium size bags if you organize it right. Good luck

i jump in a friends boat a lot during tourns and i bring 6 rods, a tackle bag that holds 8 3600's another bag that holds rain gear gloves back brace and extra hat, and my lunch and drink. also like the other guy's said talk to the boater to see how much you can bring and still be comfortable. thanks stan

Talked to the pro today. Sounds like a younger guy.He didn't care what I bring. he even offered to let me use some of his rods if I needed! That will not be necessary but it was nice of him to offer. He knows the lake and fished it last weekend . And plans on fishing it two days this week. We seem to both be on the same page.

Thanks for all your responses.

Mark,...just make sure you talk to your Pro the evening before your tournament,.....he'll have a game plan developed on where you're going and what kind of fishing you'll be doing. If he's going to be "pitchin' or flippin'" for lrgmth all day,....no reason to take a bunch of light action spinning gear. It'll just get in your way!

You'de be smart to just take 4-5 rods and have them rigged for the kind of presentations you'll be doing.....it's fine to take a bunch of stuff with you and leave it in your motel room......then you'll be able to mix and match as you need to,...but on the tournament day,...just take what you'll need based on the Pro's advice. If you end up doing something bizarre during the day that you/he didn't count on,..then he SHOULD let you borrow what you'll need from him! I travel with a truck load of stuff,...but when tourney day rolls around,..I'll have a President's 3700 bag and 4-5rods....rainsuit,..and my own water/snacks....just take what you think you'll need and keep it as organized as possible!!...deffinetely ask your Pro to give you a 2-3 min. "heads-up" when he/she plans to move,...and be ready when he says "let's go".....or as the Japanese guy i fished with in Arkansas said,..."WE GO NOW!!!"....ahhahhah Good luck and have fun dude!!

Thanks Mac,I appreciate the advice.

Thanks to all you guys for your great advice and best wishes. This site has done so much for me just in the great people I've had the pleasure to converse with and at times meet in person.

My Pro will be on the water on thurs. and fri. I will meet up with him on fri for some pre fishing.Seems I got lucky the first time out sounds like a real nice guy.

He has a 518 Ranger .Looking foreward to riding a Ranger.

90% of the boats up here are Ranger.

Temp. forecast for sat. is know at 85*

This is going to Rock !!

I'm really going to miss getting together with the likes of all of you in Mich. this weekend though.

I cant fish from the bank with 2 or 3 rods...lol

Alot of it depends on the boat you will bein AND your ability to keep things straight and organized. I usually fish with at least 6 rods, sometimes more.

I'm highly organized Mini. probably to much so. I just don't want to spends time keeping it that way. A 518 kind of limits my space. Next year I'll fish as a Pro and take all my gear hahahaha-aha !

518? Limited space? The back comaprtment will hold a Tackle Logic bag....
