You asked:

"I have yet to find a way to strap down 12 foot crappie poles when traveling from one spot to another. Anyone have any suggestions???"

In the Grab Bag, there is a great project for a fish'n'ski rod holder. I'll bet you could adapt it for your Targa. Have the rods pointing to the rear since they'll flex like the dickens when you are under way.

Those long rods are sure nice for dipping minnows and jigs in and around brush, log jams and behind docks!

Ooooohhhh, that's what those long rods are for.

Thanks Mo

I have done that when making slowly to another fishing spot. These graphite B n M poles do not take much bouncing against the boat or any other hard objects. I do alot of panfishing (bluegill, crappie, perch) and have caught a number of bass and walleye (biggest being 5 lb.) on this 12 foot pole. Unless you have fished with a 12 foot pole, you cannot believe the fun is this type of fishing!!

I thought of another possible solution. You could by a rod rack that fits into a pedestal seat base. The rods are stored vertically in downrigger-like tubes. If you only had four rods, let's say, and used the innermost tubes, the rods would act more like a whip antenna going down the lake.

To keep the tips from breaking, you could purchase velcro straps used to bundle computer cables (Kensington makes sets you can buy at Best Buy or CompUSA) and bundle the rods 1/2 way up and again close to the tip.

Just thought I'd share that idea too. You got me thinking about how I would transport a 9- or 10-foot fly rod without breaking it or taking it apart as I make my run.

Ha! I saw the photo of you and that smallie, with a fly rod lying on the port side rod locker! You know durn well what those long rods are for!!!!

By the way, since you've obviously beached your TV-18, did you install any kind of keel guard? How bad does beaching the boat tear up the keel?

MO-

Ahhhh, the beauty of an aluminum boat!

I don't ever beach my boat onto boulders or seawalls, but I'll pull it right up on sand or gravel banks...I don't have any visible scars...
