I got a Cabela's catalog last night and they have a big walleye tourney every year with I think it was a $40k payout for 1st. You fish it? I think it was in MN, but can't recall. If not, you should look into it, I bet it has quite the turn out.

Rob,

Both of the circuits that I am fishing in 2003 are "Qualifiers" for the Cabela's Tournament to be held in 2004. My new partner... John... Qualified last year, 2002, and will be fishing this June.... Great tournament.

Someday when I have tons of money and free time.......um probably never! LOL But anyway, I would like to try an 'eye tourney to see how similar it is. I don't know enough about walleye to fish a big tourney though. But I do believe that game fish are game fish. A little modification in your approach and you're catching fish. I just like competition really. Good luck this year. If you get some that don't make the "release" and you want to unload some fillets, feel free to ship them to North Country Bass & Birds, c/o Rob LaMoy.....I didn't get ANY eyes last year. Bummer, cause they're my favorite fish.

Major differences... You can use live bait! And, you can troll!!! And, you have to be smart and own a tin boat... LOL. Finally, they sometimes are "Catch and Harvest"... So my cooler does get fish once in a while. Oh, and lots of times you can (except in Minnesota) fish with two or three rods.

That I have seen. I know they use live bait, and troll, and have seen them holding 2 rods each, but I mean the overall atmosphere. But I didn't know that had catch n keep tourneys! Cool. Our walleye numbers are bad and getting worse each year. I really thought that given how many boats we had at the rally and where everyone was fishing, we would have seen at least 1, but not a single one was BBQ'd that weekend.

Some (most) of us (walleye tournament participants) have trouble with the "catch and kill"... I have one in the WAT circuit in late June.. Voluntarily chosen to limit it to two fish per boat! And, although the WI DNR prohibits "recirc" livewell use at the weigh-in... we leave the boats in and then release the fish anyway!
