A while back I was watching one of the Sunday morning outdoor shows. It was a shooting show, don't recall the name, but I like it because the intro new calibers and loads etc. They talked about this .50 cal club and tournaments. Have you ever seen one? The guns are rather pricy, I think a good used one went around $20k. But they start I think at 1,000 yards and the target is a car door, still attached to the car. There is a bullseye too, but they not only judge accuracy but penetration and ft lbs down range. To qualify on the car contest not only did they have to place within a certain ring but the round had to pierce the entire vehicle after impact. Does the military use these? I've seen it on Navy Seals, sure, that's Hollywood. Aside from fixed position, I think they're too heavy to be useful. I thought it was really slick. I'll stick with the .30 cal range for now. But what a testosterone enhancing gun that is! LOL, I think the rounds were about $4 or $5 each if you loaded your own. Did anyone else see that? I WANT ONE!!!!

I have been able to shoot a few .50's. Besides the machineguns on the helos. We did a test a while back and was able to shoot out past 1000 yards at night. Shoot a tracer and then shoot again beofre the forst one hit the targetr. Was cool to have mulitple shots in the air. Looks neat.
We do use them for special applications. I did not see the show, but I will ahve to be on the look out for it. Do you remember the show?

If you want a very accurate, long-range rifle at an affordable price, check out an M-1 Garrand....you can get match rifles pretty cheap. I'm sure Carlos can give us info on how to get these out of Camp Perry.
Also check out Springfield Armory's .308's. Again, very affordable match rifles capable of astrounding accuracy beyond 1000 yards.

For all those human rights activists, DON'T read the following, but I've always wanted a 22-250 and to go out west and prarie dog hunt where they launch like 300 rounds a day and get rid of the nuisance animals. You set up a bench and shoot about 250-400 yards. It often resembles.......desert. (anyone see where I'm going with this?) My dream hunt has now officially changed. I'd like to get me a nice .50 cal BFG and about 15,000 rounds, probably need a new barrell for every 5k rounds....but anyway, then head over to Iraq and do some "nuisance" hunting/target shooting! See, I want to hunt the world, then on to North Korea, maybe some druglords in South America. I would have made one hell of a sniper if the Army would have taken me. Sr master Sgt said, "It's a damn shame that heart of yours. Regulations.....crap, I'd love to have you in my army!" Tough ole bird, he really thinks it's HIS army too! And I ain't tellin him any different!
