Looking to purchase a new gps. I live in southeast Louisiana, and want something with maps of this area. I do not want a combo unit. Want something simple, for the simple person I am. Any advise appreciated.

Bubby, for the boat? I don't understand no combo unit? If you just want a straight GPS they are made but both HB and Lowrance make units with internal antennas that will work as just GPS without going through the hassle of mounting a transducer. Will add a little re-sale to the boat as well and you never know if/when you might want to rig the transducer and make it a full functioning unit. All units need map cards (Navionics, etc.) to get you your local stuff. As you can imagine the units are mass produced and not loaded with any specific area maps.

Thanks, Tox! Yes for the boat. I will consider a combo unit if I don't have to go to school to use it. It really is hard to teach old dogs new tricks.

As Uncle Billy used to say...Easy Peasy. Especially if you are just using the GPS. Humminbird Greg or one of the other electronics guru's can help. I know I had the HDS 5 on my console and I used it in GPS mode more than anything.

I'm a senior citizen and have had the old gps and I now have the HDS and the new ones are much easier to use.

Bubby I too am an old dog in ways and got HB 597 ci combo unit and love it. I just leave it on it's own settings and arrow over to the GPS. It's so easy that even I can do it

Thanks everyone! I am going to get the combo unit. Waiting for Greg to give advise.
