I've been using a GoPro Hero2 camera to shoot video of my walleye trips. It mounts on your head or one of about four other mounting brackets, it's water proof up to 200 feet Downloads right onto the computer. It's amazing for a tiny little thing the clarity of the video. Any of you all that like to video your fishing but fish alone this is the anwser. The head mounting bracket is comfortable but I perfer using sheet metal screws and a drill driver to mount mine. Remember I'm Polish.

davetnitro, did you use a clamp on the windshield or the suction cup mount?...very cool video...

Man you did go digging did't ya. 2012 posts 2 years ago :D But its good sometimes to find some good stuff to talk about. I have the Hero Pro 3 (not the 3+) and since I have handicap rails on my boat so I use a combination rail mount with tripod screw on so the camera can be rotated in any direction quickly. Before I used a standard rail mount, which let me film forwards or backwards toward the action. But if I have current that forces me to fish off the sides then my back may block the view of the action. Had to hunt really hard for that perfect mount. I fish by myself 90% of the time in remote areas. I've also modified my camera to where it accepts a power plug that plugs into a 12v outlet, and a converter to change from a SD mini card to a compact flash card that can then go from 64 to 128 or larger. It allows it to continue charging the battery while its recording until the card fills, then its quick and easy to change out to another card. I can record 720 and get almost 4 hours on a 64 gig card. On battery, you'd have to change the battery out every hour - a ROYAL PITA. Now with a 128gig card, I can fish the entire trip and record it. I also use the gopro app on my smartphone so I can see what I'm about to record, start/stop and review what I've recorded (but generally don't).

Now the downside is editing those large files but it is much easier taking the compact flash card out and put it in my laptop's built in CF slot. But easier to copy it to the hard drive THEN edit (much faster transfer times) but it will still take time to load it into an editor like Microsoft's Movie Maker. I have the more expensive editing software - but its still daunting to learn how to use it correctly so now I just create 2 editing folders, copy files to each - one for MS Movie Maker and the other for Sony's video editing software (Vegas Platium).

How do you guys edit your GoPro video's? What resolutions do you use for fishing action? It took some research for me as initially I used 1080 x 60, then 920 before I realized I occasionally wanted slow motion before I figured out 720 x 60 gave me what I needed.

The GoPro hero IV is coming out in Oct. It suspose to have a mini screen on the fob so you can adjust the camera and see what's getting filmed. Gonna get one asap.
