Getting another key or two....

Just bought an 08 Z6 and only have on ignition key.....how do I go about getting more? Tracker or can I have one made locally? thanks

any hardware store can copy the one you have now.

hhhmmm I tried that.....at a hardware store....couldnt do it...went to a boat dealer and they order me some....mercury...for 3.00 each.................

all you need to do is take the little black cover off the one you have, and find the correct blank.

not rocket scince here just depends on wether or not your hardware store is worth a d*m.

try home depot or lowes i'm positive they can make copies.

Joe - you must have better stores that we do around here. I tried that route with my Tracker PT175 and later my G3 HP180. No hardware store in the Northern Virginia, Washington DC area could do it. The local Home Depots (tried two) and Lowe's (tried one) just scratched their heads. They could do the keys for the rod lockers, but forget the ignition keys. I ended up getting the code off of the keys and mail ordering them. I'd recommend the same route for Kenny. A google search for Merc iginition keys will turn up plenty of competitively priced vendors so long as you have the key code.

Had the same problem as Jim. My dealer wanted as much for a spare key as a new Merc switch. So I changed the switch. I do not believe you will find someone, even a locksmith to make that key Kenny.

ya..........UNLESS you know someone...I think the ignition key could not be made...I think Nitro made 4 types of ignition keys..........as I stated....I found on old dealer who had some b 4 keys and sold them to me..............

i have not had the same experince as it seems most here have.

sounds like others have been able to get them at tracker thou.

it could possbily save you coin if you knew someone who would make copies for you? like i was able to do.

but whatever works 6 of 1 or a half dozen. good luck.

I had no issue getting a spare key for my ignition on my 882 or my z7. My local hardware store was able to match the key up no problem to a very common blank.

Leave the key in the ignition and there are never any lost key issues.

I am still working on the key issue. A local lock smith is trying to get the blank and I will know tomorrow. Tried two hardware stores, lowes and local Merc. dealer, no luck. Merc. dealer can order a key and I will do that if lock smith can't help. Thanks for those that replied. Will let you know something soon.

I've had key places make dupes many times. Ask them if they can make a duplicate key for your "riding lawn mower" and if they can, they most likely can cut you another key.
