Well, Saturday was my first day on the water after installing my new Garmin 160 on the bow of my boat. What a difference. Clarity and detail was tremendous. I believed the information that was being presented to me.

I really didn't get much of a chance to 'play' with it. Just left it in regular mode, other than changing to the fish ID mode with depths. Detail on bottom was much improved over my old Bird. I could see underwater lips, humps, etc. very well.

All in all a very good buy. This winter, I will be replacing the console unit with another Garmin.

Anyone know for sure whether the ducer's for the 160 and 240 are interchangeable? In short, if I have a 160 and 240 both installed, can I swap out the two as wanted/needed from bow to console? I wouldn't do it very often, but there would be times I'd want the better unit on the console.

I knew you'd be amazed by the difference between the Garmin and the 'Bird...I love mine too!

Can't help with your 'ducer question...

enjoy,

az

Yes, you can use the same X'ducer on both. Glad you like it. Good electronics can make all the difference.............sa

The only difference between the 240 and the 160 is the screen. the mount and the ducer are the same. if you want even beter detail loose the fish id mode. I heve noticed a difference on my 240's when the fish simbols are turned off. the detail is much better. it seems like turning on the fish symbols changes the sensitivity some. ive noticed the same thing with my buddies lowrance x85 too.

Jim,

I agree with your assessment on the Fish ID and the detail. However, since it was my first time out and I had no real time to study/view, I decided to go with the id. I'll need to go out for 3-4 hours and just play, no rod in hand. That will help me get accustomed to it.

Great to hear about the ducer's. That is what I expected, that they are interchangeable.
