Got an emergency. Got a 175 SportJet in my Tracker PT185 Jet. It won't start. A repair shop (that isn't Merc approved shop) diagnosed yesterday that the electric fuel pump 852521T1 has gone bad. I had trouble finding one in stock at different parts dealers and can't get it till next week. I'm suppose to leave late tomorrow (Sat. 4/8) on a fishing trip with my 15yr old son. Are there any other options that someone can suggest to me to get my boat running? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

As a temporary repair to save your fishing trip, you can bypass the Merc pump with a 12V universal fuel pump until your part comes in. Simply take your fuel lines off the Merc pump and use the uni. Wire the uni to your run lead and your pumping fuel. It should be about 15 min. and $40. I attached a link from ebay, but you can get these from NAPA, Advanced, Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, etc. Most are 30GPH plus and 5-10 PSI feed. You can easily switch back when your part comes in. They're most likely not going to be marine rated, but for your application on an inboard jet I see no problem at all. (Been there, done that.) Good luck! ;)

For the record....Dan is right and it shoudl work.....but if it is NOT marine approved, there is the risk of a fire or explosion hazard. It is NOT recommended......

Even if they're marine rated there is always the risk of fire or explosion with any electric fuel pump. (Remember the Wet Jet jetskis? A.K.A. "Wet Junk" ) Just wanted to share a quick, easy fix so a fella can go fishing instead of waiting, based on my first hand experience with this similar issue.

You really want to peel some eyes back, let 'em know what it take$ and the rea$oning behind marine rating componants. We both know mfr.'s that make and sell dual line products that are identical in construction, yet gain a higher POS for the "marine" version. In my pump business I dealt with this firsthand.
