Well like I posted on Friday I took the boat out for the first time Saturday with Jim Browne. We thought that we might get a bass or two if we were lucky . launched around 11 in the morning the water temp was around 48 and there was a strong wind blowing I figured that a jerkbait might work and we both had new flipping sticks we wanted to play with, as a afterthought I had tied on a flat A crankbait . We got to an area where we usually start ,threw the jerkbait a for a while then picked up the rod with the crankbait then to my surprise after a few casts a decent bass nailed it . Now it has always happned to me in the past if I catch a nice fish the first time out during the season the rest of the year sucks for me. It may sound like a wierd superstition but every time this happens I have a bad year. So as I'm bringing in this fish I'm yelling that i'm screwed for the year. about five minutes later Jim nails a real nice fish over 4 pounds now he's yellling he's screwed too. To make a long story short we're both really screwed because we ended the day with me catching 6 bass the largest being a shade over 5 pounds and one 5 pound hybrid and Juim getting 3 bass the largest being over 4 pounds and 6 hybrid biggest was over 6 pounds. All the fish were on crankbaits with the exception of my hybrid which came on a lucky craft jerkbait. All the fish were exept a few were caught in one little 10 yard area .

Tom, Great fist outing!!! I have a similar superstition but mines for each trip. It seems like if I catch a fish during the first 30 minutes it's the only one I catch all day.

my superstition is bad luck if i catch a fish on my first cast during a tournament. so my first cast is usually 3 feet and i reel up fast. also my first trip out each year, early april in vermont,we catch good fish about the size of the fish you caught. 3 lbs.and up. which is a higher average than later in the season on the same waters. stan

Well, just hand me your money at the rally then! LOL, Can't wait to get out there. Ice is out already! Water will hit 40 before long and that's enough for me and the bassus! See you in May Tom.
