Last week I posted my first message about what boat to buy ('93 astro or 2000 185 f/s). I bought the 185 f/s and it will be delivered to my office in about 10 minutes. This is my first boat so I am excited, nervous, scared...you name it and I am feeling it. I actually bought the boat for crabbing & skiing but would like to learn more about local fishing and where to do it. If anyone is from Maryland, I would love to have your input on the fishing in the area. I keep wondering why I felt sick to my stomach all week. Now I know it's the boat!

Jay, I had the same thing the first time I took my new (first) boat out. I'd spent about 6 months reading all the message boards learning what I could. When the time came for the first trip it went really smooth. Just take your time and don't feel pressured by anyone to hurry up. Enjoy your boat and have a good time.

Like Scott said....they're good jitters to have.

Jay - Do a search on the board here for "Another Checklist" there is a GREAT list by MOFish and a few good updates/comments by the rest of the site. Just relax, ideally take it out with someone who knows boats on a WEEKDAY and take your time launching, trying and working everything out!

Enjoy!

MO - I told you to send it to Rich for Grab Bag!

When you take it out for the first time, DO NOT take any fishing gear with you. First time should be to 'check it out', learn and enjoy. Plenty of time to fish, later on.

Jay - Where in Maryland do you live ? I live in Pa. but do alot of my fishing in Md. Maybe we can hook up some time, in either your boat or mine.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I loved the checklist and it will definitely be used. Rob, I will take a photo if I can figure out how to post it. Beck, I live in Gambrills (about 15 minutes from Annapolis, 20 minutes from the bay bridge).

Jay, I live in Rockville. I go on the upper and lower Potomac. Don't go out on the bay yet. Also go to Kerr (Bugg's Island)Lake in S. VA and N. Carolina for the summer. Also go to Lake Anna (crowded on weekends).

Take your boat out with a friend if you can to figure out how it works.

david....

David,

I hear the fishing is good down that way. Unfortunately, I have only fished in salt water in Florida. I know nothing about fishing in this area but intend to learn.

Jay,

Here's a picture with and without the extension. They aren't very good pics....I need to quit spending all my

money on tackle and get a digital camera....Nnnnaaaaaa

Jay,

Congratulations on you new boat. I picked mine up last Friday, a TV-18, and share with you the jitters of getting it into the water. I'm also from Maryland, Clinton Maryland.

This is a great bunch of folks and a great source of information. I've spend hours using the SEARCH function and learned a whole lot.

I think Maryland is a fisherman's paradise. Freshwater fishing in all the rivers, reservoirs, lakes and ponds. Then there's the Chesapeake and it tribs for all the saltwater species.

There is a magazine on the newstand titled 'Fishing in Maryland", the 2002 annual edition is just out. It's about $8. It has lots of articles, maps of fishing site, facts about launching ramps and much more. There is also a weekly called The Fisherman. It has articles as well as reports from marinas and bait shop as to whats biteing. They tend to be a bit orientated to saltwater but still have lots of good info.

Good fishin' and boatin'

"MO - I told you to send it to Rich for Grab Bag!"

TrepMan, I did send it to Rich. He was really busy at the time and that he'd look at it when he had some free time.

Thanks for the info Jan. I actually saw that book today but didn't have time to glance thru it. Sounds like just what I need. I am curious about the TV-18. I keep hearing how great a boat it is but haven't seen one yet. Guess I will look for some pics.
