So, I have a new employee starting and I usually like to have a little sit down with them and let them know my expectations and get to know them a little bit. I call him in my office and he stands until I tell him to sit down (hmmmmm....gets me thinking), addresses me "yes sir" and "no sir" (gets me thinking more). So I ask him..."What branch of the service were you in?".......he answers..."Marines, sir". So I ask him...Retired?...he answers..."No, 10 years in sir". So I ask him..."What did you do for the Corps?"...he answers...."I was a helicopter pilot sir." So I ask him..."Did you do any time in the sandbox?".....he answers "3 tours sir." At this point I look him in the eyes and say "First, let me thank you for your service to our country, second, I am going to give you the opportunity to start a new career either with the FDIC or any number of other companies." He wondered how it was that he got hired with no experience or work history. (Truth be known, I picked him based on his application). I told him that he had some of the most intense training and work history I have seen and that it is my job to find "potential" as well as experience. I told him I was honored to have him on my team. He thanked me and went back to his desk.
At least now, I have some protection if I ever jump on CIII's deck lids again!! I can call in an air-strike!!
