Hello folks well just got a excise bill on my boat that sits on my trailer WOW is what i thought massachusetts now has excise on the trailer and boat and i cant even drive the boat on the road cause it needs to be the trailer will it ever stop.

Phil,

What town do you live in? The last i knew the boat excise was a`town by town thing. Where i live in Holliston there is none on the boat, just the trailer. Personally i dont like the excise tax at all regardless of what its attached to. We already pay road taxes on gasoline to the state, they should not require is to pay what is basically a tax to be able to park our cars(and boat in your case) on our own property that we are already taxed on .

I live in greenfield massachusetts feels like every time i turn around i need to pay more when i called the town hall the guy to spoke with laughed at me cause i couldnt beleave it. mass also has changed the length in witch you need title from 16 to 14 taxes taxes what else i kepp saying and they keep adding wait for the lawn mower excise taxes

My mother was from Concord. My brother and I were born there. Dad was career military and we grew up in the Southwest and Southeast, and finally settled in TN. God Bless Dixie!!!

BTW, Dad calls it Taxachusetts.:):)

Can you say, LIVE FREE OR DIE?

We have our share of taxes but Ma makes NH look almost perfect.

Isn't this the state Romney is claiming such success for? Santorum or bust fellas. I seriously feel for ya out there.

NH is almost perfect, we drive to the border to get discounted booze!!! :D

Be glad It's no Indiana..wheel tax license tax, prop tax..excise Is always applied to every license....It's a Nightmare...And not alot of water to fish..

It is a "town-by-town" issue. No excise in Brimfield. But then again I have no streetlights, sidewalks, or fire hydrants either!!!

Property taxes are what they are and those of us who live where boats are taxed lose out. In my community, license plates for my trailer are optional. When I was traveling between KS and MO I licensed it just to avoid any "hassles." I left it unlicensed for a year or two, then decided to re-license it. They wanted to charge a late fee. I laughed while I asked if they were willing to forego the $25 license fee to gain $2.50 late fee on an optional licensing. They said "that is the rule." I have no plate.

Tex, that is an interesting link for sure. The only thing is it appears the data is from 2003, i wonder how much has changed in 9 years? That link has Mass being below the national average and the general perception is that Mass is as bad as it gets tax wise.

Looking at that link reminded me of something a friend of mine mentioned a while back. He moved from Mass to West Virginia back in 2004 and after being there a few months he realised that form a tax standpoint he was paying a larger percentage of his income to taxes there than he ever did in Mass. Granted his total cash outlay was less but he also makes about 1/3rd the money in WV than he did up here in MA so it hurts his bottom line a lot more. Things he noticed that were different, in WV the gas tax is higher, sales tax is higher(not the case today but it was in 04), food and clothing are taxed, the property or excise tax on a vehicle is more and declines at a lower rate as the vehicle depreciates, income tax rate is higher, property tax on homes and land is at a higher percentage of value( i pay about half of what he does percentage wise on my home conciderign the values)

Well i see its all over the place, we each have some pain of our own. we have a 6.25 meal takes here in Greenfield Mass and my property taxes and water / sewer bill i spend year around 4200.00 and i dont live like a king oh well. i would like to see a up to date effective taxes rate of this great country we live in. And dont get me wrong this is a great country run by a bunch of dumb ***** that dont seem to understand they cant keep spending if we dont have the money. Here in mass from what ive been told you now need to have a fishing license to fish in the ocean from shore dam when did they start stocking the ocean. Well lets hope for a great fishing season and to all a great big fish.

phil,

The ocean fishing license is actually a national thing not just here in MA.

Everyone quick, move to ND. Oh wait, that's already happening :)

Can't wait until we overtake Alaska as the #2 oil producing state in the US.

Yeah that's great but it is still North Dakota!!:lol: Rank right up there with Alaska for the winters!! One good thing is that you have a lot of wild ditch parrots to hunt.
