Hi all- I did a search on this topic and only found one topic with three responses so I would like to try again. I would like to mount riggers to my 18ft Targa. I am leaning toward using the board, but would like to know the best way to secure it to the boat. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance for your help.

I have a Targa 18. I haven't mounted any downriggers on my machine, but have mounted 4 machined brackets (2 ea, front and rear) to hold rod-holders when crappie and pan fishing.

I used a self threading ss screw (about a #8 or #10 I think), and put them right into the flat piece that 'circles' the boat. For the life of me, I can't pull the correct terms out right now.

I pre-drilled a slightly smaller hole, and then used a power screwdriver to put them in. They have held for over 18 months very well.

Hope that helps.

i have 4 riggers on my 19,the 2 outboard ones, are bolted down through the rail with 1/4" strainless bolts with aluminum backing plates to spread the pressure out evenly so the rail doesnt crack.make sure the bolts are tight and use nylon locking bolts and lockwashers also.fender washers on the bolts are a good thing also.

the 2 inboard ones are bolted to the wooden transom splash rail.there is a piece of 1/8 galvanized steel under that riveted to the aluminum transom.i have 5/16 nutserts in the steel holding the wood down to the rail.the riggers are screwed down with #14 stainless screws through the wood and steel/aluminum sandwich..drill a 3/16 pilot hole down through the wood/steel/aluminum to make it easier to screw things down.

depending on what kind of rigger you plan to use will decide placement of the rigger.longer booms would be needed for over the transom, where as shorter booms over the side.i have 4 ft and 5 ft booms on mine.

What d' ya gott catch em for....you can get em in the can at the store. Never seen any Smallies in that isle, have seen some cats in the frozen isle though. I know jealously is a hard thing to deal with. I WISH I could get into some of those TASTY pink fish. Fish that deep in the Potomac River and you're more likely to pull out Jimmy Hoffa!!
