Went out today to spruce up the boat and trailer (it's gotta be lookin good for the boys of MI) and found out that the rubber bracket holding my plate was gone (ripped off) AND I have a sheared lug on one of my rims. Put a wrench to it and sure enough the lug opposite to the one that sheared was loose. Rats.....it gets to stay at the marina tomorrow!! Already went and got a new plate at the DMV, then went to the trailer shop and got a new holder,,,a METAL holder and as I explained to the guy behind the counter what happened, he tells me now when you hit something you will take your whole light assembly along with the plate!!LOL!!

Ahhhh lovely maintenance!!!!! Needs constant work to keep 'em shipshape!!!!!

At least you look at your rig and it did not fall off on the way to the water!!

You would think that putting on a plate holder would be easy.....I had to drop the whole light assembly!! I'm not equipped to put a new wheel stud in my drum.

Sure you are. Is it one of the hubs with brakes? If not it's real simple. Remove wheel and tire, Take a hammer and punch and knock out the old stut. (do you have an air compressor and impact gun?)If not remove the hub, place on a oiece of wood and drive the stud in from the rear with a hammer. If you have an impact gun, leave the hub inplace. insert new stud from rear, place enough washer on the stud to equal the thickness of the hub, install lug nut and tighten until stud is in place. Piece of cake man....

take your new license plate bracket and hang it from the bunks on the drivers side.it will never have a problem again. you will need a new plate light for night use, but if you are handy that should not be a problem.

ray,

Awsoem idea! tox, I have wire and stuff if you want it for nxt weekend!

Hang your plate from the holder where it is but use black wire ties. Keep them loose enough that the plate will swing in either direction and you will never rip one off again. The reason for using black ties is that the black ones are UV resistant and last a long time.

Use piano hinge to mount your plate...I got tired of those chinsy flimsy plastic ones. No problems now:)

NOW you guys pipe up!!LOL AFTER I put the new hanger on. Yeah and the stud is on one of my brake rims. It's no problem, one of the nice things about being sponsored by a marina. They are gonna go over the whole system....brakes, hubs and so on. Took the family out yesterday and when I came back, one of my bunks is laying on the trailer sideways.....shheeeesh, must be my year for maintenance.

Tee, I like the idea of the piano hinge. I assume you used stainless.
