I got to watch all the ESPN shows this morning. Some are very good.

Basscenter is okay, and certainly provides some usefull information.

LoudMouth bass - I can take or leave. Sometimes on point, other times just 2 loud mouths.

Bassmaster University - very good. If they keep up this quality of show, it will prove to be very beneficial.

Jimmy Houston - well, it's Jimmy.

Fishin' Hole - if he keeps having guests like KVD, it will be a step up for an already good show.

Of course the coverage of the BASS tourney's is generally always good.

Tex

Warming up nice.Suns out but the sbnow is covered with an icy crust

Hey Tex!!

How ya been?! Tony's interview was priceless. Should be labeled "How to avoid an open and honest question." He stated that he'd never fish Pro again. I don't blame him. He has joined a select group of people that will most likely get their entry fees sent back with a "No Thanks".

Doing fine Dan. Hoping that I can get over to GA for one of the Trepper Invitationals sometime this year. Headed for Keowee in March for a 2 day away tourney. Going looking for some of them 3-4lb spot's.

BASS hooking up with Cialis looks like a mad scramble for WHATEVER sponsor money they can find. It's a shame. The integrity level was so much higher before ESPN got their claws into it. They moved the ops. to Orlando and turned it into Disneyworld! It's more and more becoming a rolling pun.

If you're heading to the big K in early March, I'd suggest staying up the hot arm for heads looking for beds. Good weight pulled then.

Some of the things they are trying to do I would just prefer them not to tackle. However, I think that the changes announced for 2006 are super. It will really give a new meaning to the AOY title, and really thin out who are the better fisherman overall.

I made the mistake last year of fishing the wrong part of the lake (far up on the right towards Jocassee). Caught fish, but nothing of any size/numbers.

The best stringers came from the bottom of the lake. I really haven't fished the 'hot area', but need to go check that out.

Hey Dan - What, not fishing today???!!!!

Tex - I'll definetly make Hartwell or one of those lakes for the NTOWS Club this year. Big Dan - I may need a crash pad one night on the way, so I have a shorter drive from Canton, heck it takes me 1 hour to get to the north side of Lanier!!

Any changes invoked over the past several years have been to improve the $ bottom line or protect the member of the Athlete Advisory Council. (Whom I have friends on.) It's just sold at a different angle.

The days of Don Butler are sadly long gone. IMHO

I don't like the classic being moved to Feb.

That narrows it down to a few states during the PRIME of the season.

What happened to THE BEST OF THE BEST....

not just a big bag spawn shootout

Hey Mikey!!

I might go try to chip a hole out of the dock later for a cast or two, but this BB sized sleet's gotta stop 1st!!

Know what you mean about the advisory council. For the most part, it's made up of long time BASS members (pro's), who are going to try and protect themselves.

However, I bet it was a shock to them when they announced a larger field (next year), and increased fees. They did not want that.

I'm guessing that they will really have the Classic in the general late January through early March timeframe. I really don't think that it will restrict the Classic to just Florida.

Think about the Classic on Santee Cooper, or Lake Murray in late Feb. or early March. Man, that would be something.

Actually, most of the fellas have had an entry fee paid deal for a while. The sponsor will(or won't) take the brunt of that and the angler's will get a much deserved bigger payday. BASS has been taking more off the top than any other trail since the beginning. Not a bash, just a fact.

The amount of anglers has never really been a factor (IMHO). If you got good fish, you get a good check. I've been on both ends of that one, just not enough of the good side! LOL!!!

I don't think they'll find a Chamber that'll pay after the last debacle. ('96?) I don't know if anyone made money, let alone broke even. It can also be dangerous with the amount of monster yachts on a 38k acre pond. Our Mustad Classic two years ago proved that. Several fellas came back "white knuckled".

Dan - Do you keep the 929 in the water/dock, or on a trailer? this would DEFINETLY be a day for those Helmets if you go!!! LOL

Trep - Right now it's on the trailer. I don't like leaving it at the dock in nasty weather. The North wind can get ripping into my creek. Today is a dock day only, at best.

Dan - got a BPS question for you.

How come, the local BPS here in Charlotte, only carries Navioinics chips for Florida Lakes?

Do you have any knowledge on what the Atlanta store carries?

Tex - Not sure? I know that the Nav. chips I've been given can put me 30 yds up the bank as well as on the water. I don't recomend them myself. Lowrance.com has a section of free downloadable maps of big name waterways that are very accurate though. I think the Nav. chips are spotty, at best.

Thanks Dan. I know that the mapsource fishing hot spots maps can appear to be off, but sometimes that's just a combination of the difference from full pool and/or the +/- you get from the GPS.

I've been very happy with the Fishing Hot Spots/Mapsource stuff I have and the Garmin handheld.

I just wish the FHS stuff was more timely. Most of their maps are based on old info. On the other hand, it ain't cheap to go sonar all new waters.

Hey southern boys....Got Winter?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Bob G.

I'm with you. Nothing much new has been produced in quite a while. It wouldn't seem like it would be that big of a deal to outfit boat/boats with the proper electronics and just re-map a lake.

Hey Bob!!

Man, like you wouldn't believe we got winter!! LOL!!

Trep - I just went back and read a post of yours I missed. Of course I got room for you! Worse come to worse, I'll just pull a broom out of the closet and put you in it's place! LOLOLOL!!!!!!

I feel for youse guys....ice is way worse than snow.

Bob G.

Touche Bob! Yep, we got winter....Southern stlye, 20's today and tonight....looking at a high of about 46 tomorrow according to the weather channel! But, with all of the ice on the ground, I am sure it won't feel like 46 for a couple of days!

Harry, I've got to get with you and do some Crappie fishing here in the Carolina's. Used to do it back in Texas, but haven't been in quite a while.

It's been a great chat fellas, but I got a bored 5 yr. old that needs a dose of excitement. Gonna hit the r/c race track for a while and see how fast we can launch a car off the curb! Take care all!!

Tex:

Absolutely! Although I haven't done any crappie fishing locally in years! Last was on lake Norman... some of the creeks south of 150 used to be productive. Best ever was off Angels landing on Santee....would love to make another trip there.

Thought I'd take a couple hours this morning and replace the carpet on the front deck of my Pro 17. Hah! 3 hours in and I have 8 of the 16 or 20, non-stainless of course, screws out that hold the deck in. Too corroded to take out with a screwdriver. Remembered that my daughter bought me a set of those stripped screw extractors that Bob Vila is always crowing about--Fuggedaboudit! Can't drill the heads off of 'em either. I did manage to drill a couple of the heads off so I could pull them through but the bits don't last long. I'm taking a break now and I think I'll go either get me a bit for my die grinder so I can grind the heads off or get a hole saw a little bigger than the screw head and just cut holes through that way and hacksaw the screws off when I get the deck out. I wasn't figuring on using the same holes anyway. Hutch

Hutch - you taking picture of this so the rest of us in 10 years know how???

Bob - Bam you got us!!!! lol

Dan - Know ALL about those 5 yearolds!!! Right now both of mine are on a "job" cleaning 1/3 of the play room. They have till 2pm EST or I start throwing stuff away. If they finish, my wife has a closet of stuff/toys/games she buys on sale and hides, i've got a new board game they will LOVE to Play!!

Hutch,

when I did mine I used a hammer and screwdriver to indent the wood around the screw heads a little, then grab em with a pair of Vice Grips. Some will turn out, some will snap off.

Steve
