The boat made it through the winter just fine but the trailer jack is tighter than a rusty vice. It took both my son and I to get it up off the hitch the other day after fishing. I don't see any place to lube it so I guess the only alternative is to replace it. Which jack should I buy for my PT-185, an 800# or 1000#? Looks like it going to cost around 35 or 40 bucks.

Any thoughts?

Mine has a grease zert. I made the mistake of filling it full of grease not long ago and now the shaft is loaded and you can't get near it without ruining your shirt or pants. If the shaft is exposed just put a little grease where necessary.

I think I saw the new jacks on sale the other day at bps.

Mine doesn't have a grease zert so I can't grease it. Last summer I tried jacking it up all the way and spraying some white lithium grease on it but I couldn't get up into the gears where it was needed.

I went by BPS yesterday to check them out. I ran into my boat salesman and he told me the 800# is sufficiant for my boat but I think I'm going to get the 1000# one because it has a couple more inches of travel so maybe I can get it high enough to drain water out the transom. Because my driveway is so steep I can't do that now. He also told me they were on sale LAST WEEK for real cheap but not now. :>(
