Took boat out this weekend. Only third time out, but this time I used the motor most of the day trying to locate schools of striper, etc...First few trips out I had a steady buzz after a few minutes of running, but when I undid the cap on oil reservoir air pressure released and it would stop, did this again and I just left oil lid loose. Well next time out I had this 3 beep/buzz thing keep going on every so often. As well as a steady beep once while running. Took out yesterday and nothing at all, everything fine, although it was only a few mile run each way. Pressure, temp and everything was good on gauges. Any ideas on what it could be.

The oiling system on that engine is pressure fed. The remote tank in the boat MUST have an air-tight seal, or the crankcase pressures developed from normal engine operation will not "push" the oil up to the tank mounted on the engine itself. If you left the cap loose, oil will only be used from the tank on the engine, and once it draws down about a 1/2", will trigger an alarm. First order of business is to bleed the oil system and be sure the tank on the motor is full to the top, and all caps are tight.

To bleed the system.....Make sure the oil tank in your boat is full, remove the cowl on your engine, start it on a hose in your driveway, LOOSEN the cap on the small tank, and you should see it start to overflow within a couple of minutes. Catch and clean residual, tighten cap and you should be all set.

Let's start here....;)

Well it fixed that buzzer by doin that! But another issue now :( I was idling around using side imaging and after a while my engine just died n wouldn't start...after lettin it sit for 15 min it started right up...ran fine until I idled again, give it gas and it die...wait 15 min it's fine...is their fuel filters I need to change? Spark plugs need changed maybe....thanks again for everything!!!

I would suspect battery voltage. Be SURE you have at least 12.5 volts for proper run quality. Check and tighten all connections. Charge battery.

Start here.....;)

It turned over just fine, but would just crank and crank....shouldn't it charge while idling with the alternator anyway....hmmm...last time it started it was kind of sputtering when i tried to open it up, but after a few spirts it opened up and ran fine...i'm no machanic at all lol but seems it was having trouble getting gas or something...Thanks again...I really appriciate all this help :) still think its volatage? just checking to make sure

first time I had idled for probably 15 minutes, 2nd time probably a few minutes

Ok, let's not disregard the battery first and foremost. Second, I'd like you repeat the problem again, but this time, once the motor starts to falter, squeeze the primer bulb. See if at that point we get a response from the motor.......in other words, it comes back "to life". If your lift pump is getting weak, primer bulb, or the fuel line is degradating, it may be causing a restriction, pressure loss, etc. Have you had any / all of these components serviced recently?

I just bought the boat about 2 months ago and it was supposed to be serviced before i picked it up...but you know how that goes sometimes

ill make sure the battery is fully charged and try again, if it happend I will try the other thing you recommended trying with the primer ball. Thanks again!

Hey Bob, can you e-mail or give me a list of everything I need to do at least once a year. Mainenance wise that is. Ex: change water pump propeller, lower unit oil/grase, etc...and if any parts I need do you sell them...if so like to do business with you, especially after all the help you have given...Thanks again!

Sure will. My computer {not this one} has a virus that we are fixing right now, once done I'll get the list together for you!!!

Josh;

Mark Lewis will e-mail you today with the list of the parts I would recommend to change annually, excepting the fuel pump {lift / pulse diaphram kit}, and plugs which can {in your case} be done about every other. If you have any questions after you get the e-mail, do not hesitate to "write". ;)

What oil do you recommend, is the penzoil stuff bass pro has on sale that bad for it? Just curious...btw thanks

I "prefer" AMSOIL, and I use it exclusively, BUT.....the merc brands are less expensive, and do the job. As far as Pennzoil, I see no issues...;)

BTW....Thanks for the order!!

Well changed all the stuff you recommended, but still got the same issue. Had trouble yesterday, when first started at lake it idled for few min n try and die, I'd give it full throttle and it go...let off and it die unless I hammer it again. I hammered it and ran full throttle for few min and it was fine rest of day. Went today same thing at first, hurried up and gave full throttle to not let die(even tho was close to no wake zone :() ran it across lake and back and it was fine until later. We fished around a few points, probably 45min, went to leave and wouldnt start, tried waiting lil while, nothing. Took spark plug out and it was drippin wet, pulled 3 and replaced with old clean ones. It started right up, I hammered it and got back to ramp, it idled fine to load and stuff!!! What now? :(
