Simple question and I am having a brain cramp.....What is the major reason for a battery to boil and overflow? Single Battery on a single bank charger.

Bad Charger? Bad Battery? Overfilled battery prior to charging?

Not me BTW, a friend called and asked and I was stumped....

Being too full can certainly cause a problem, but I would think that the primary reason is having a 'dumb charger' that simply cranks out the amps without any regard/monitoring of the charge on the battery.

Yes, yes, yes. All of the above. Over charging would be my first guess also.

My truck battery was boiling out the water one day and it was the

new alternator that I had put in was overcharging and they had to

put in a new one for me. So...could be the charger. Maybe he could

borrow someones charger and see if it still boils before he buys

a new one.;)

Must be using an manual charger or the battery is overfilled or BOTH,

I hope your "friend" didnt just buy new ones and put them in a boat that was stuck on a hoist :)

NO!! I said it wasn't me!!:lol: Mine are fine but I have not had a chance to try them out yet. Breaker keeps flipping on the power to the dock and I hope it is not my charger doing it. Will stay on for a couple of days then flip??????? I unplugged the charger to see if that is the problem. If my charger is bad and I replaced 2 good batteries I'm gonna be pizzed.

I donno tox sounds aweful conicendental to me..

so... what your saying is you could have gone fishin the other day when the water was high if your charger was working or.... you had power at the dock or.... your batteries were good or you built a new dock lift that reaced the water at low tide and go anytime.

:lol::lol::lol::unsure:

sure wish i had your problems, we still have 12"of ice on our lakes.

drove bye winni the other day and saw a whole city out on the ice. houses ,trucks, resterants seem like it will be june before i get to fire up my merc

and drop my motor guide on some unsuspecting bassisis.

if you buddy is refilling those bioled off batteries make sure he uses distilled NOT tap water, anything else has to many minerals in it and will cause problems with the batteries.

toxic,

tell your friend...Wink wink... that they are over chargeing

I PROMISE it's not me!!:lol: If it was I would have called Mini and kept it under wraps!! I unplugged my charger and the breaker still tripped on the dock and that is actually good news because it means my charger is more than likely good. After all it is a GUEST. Got 3 green lights. I might just have to slide it off the lift when I get home today just to prove it works!! I even checked around and found marina gas for $3.60 a gallon which is about what I would pay at the pump.....nice......:D

Im starting to wonder if he REALLY lives on the St johns now....lol

land gas is $3.60/gal???? DAMN! I thought it was bad around here for $3.19!

No not $3.60 but close enough for the PITA factor to make it affordable!! Supposed to be in the 80's this weekend and I am going back to DC for the week...figures.... Bait is back around my dock big-time, it's like the river has come alive in the last week. I assume they are in there spawning.

Possible reasons for a boiling battery

Bad cell in the battery

Low water in the battery

Bad charger

Something drawing on the battery while charging
