I took one a few years ago here in Oregon when it was just required for 40 and younger but now it is required for all boat operators. I think its a good thing. They have online courses you can look into.

google safe boating in most states and the online course is readly availbe from NASBLA.

free if your just refreshing and not looking for a certification.

I liked www.boatsafe.com. Like Joe said, free if you want a refresh or even learning for the first time. It's a web-based study course where you go at your own pace. It only costs $ if you want to take the test and get a certificate. I took it several years ago and paid the $20 (back then) for my cert. Virginia is in the process of phasing in required training and that course fits the bill (NASBLA approved).

I took mine on BoaterExam.com a few years back.

All the best,

Glenn

Boat US has a free one that includes your certificate. Unless you want them to send you a waterproof card, then you have to pay for it. I just laminated mine at work.

The only bad part is it locks each screen for 45 seconds to ensure you spend at least 6 hours taking the entire course.

I took the US Power Squadren Course in 1995.

I also took the Power Squadrons safety course in 1995!
