Is there an easy way to tell the sex of a Bass???

Obviously in the spring it's not too tough...But what about during the rest of the season???

I look for long eyelashes, the curvature of the body, that little twinkle in her eyes, nice pouty lips....

Andy, for those who have studied, you can tell by fin structure I think.

I heard once that a male bass's lower jaw protrudes slightly past the uper jaw. Kinda like a underbite. Anyone know a biologist?

Andy, not to take this conversation out of the gutter but I noticed we fish the same area. I have family in Cassopolis Michigan on Diamond Lake, ever fish it? I also grew up near the St. Joeseph river in Indiana ....great for smallmouth.



No idea how to sex a bass though....(and proud of it!!)

Fished Diamond Lake once...long time ago...Heard it has some decent bass, walleye and pike...

Fished the St. Joe (lower) last weekend...Caught 10 smallies but they were all 12" or less. Twice I thought I had a huge smallie on, but it turned out to be sheephead! First time I've ever caught them on grubs before!



I'd love to get some pointers from you on Diamond Lake...

Let's hook up some time!

Look at the anal opening of the bass (easier to tell if you have two bass to compare). A female bass will have more of an oval shaped anal opening. A male will have more of a circular opening.



Tyr this during the spawn when it is apparant that the two fish on a bed are of opposite sex.
