Basic battery questions

I have an extra deep cycle battery laying around. Is there any reason NOT to use a deep cycle as the cracking battery?



What makes a battery 'marine' grade? Can you use a standard auto battery as the cranking battery, or is that against regulations? I assume it is, but would like to understand.
