OK, but it's a long story. When I bought the boat, the previous owner had done an exceptional job of masking an impact in the hull dead center in the bottom of the vee where it begins to plane off on the dead rise. Well, I kept getting water in the boat with no rain, and now waves. I had someone drive while I peeked my head in the bilge area (only attempt this at lower speeds, with a trustworthy driver, on calm water, and if you're crazy like me). Only during take off and slowing down, a small stream of water would run in from somewhere around the oil resevoir. Well, apparently it was running down the bilge trough AND also down the side under the foam into this compartment. I theorize that it was the impact area, as there is a crack there that must have opened a little under the pressure of water on the hull during hole shot and slowing down. Once on pad, water can't reach it. Well, Steve let me know that those transoms are not balsa but pressure treated marine grade plywood and are completely resin coated and cased in fiberglass. He also assured me that I could cut some drain and ventilation holes into the side of the compartment to allow it to dry as the glass there is not structural. So, I will proceed tonight. Hopefully, when I'm done and the body shop is done with the small crack where the boat hit something, I should be set to go for the season. Wew, ok, now I'm done!
