I'm thinking about taking my wife to Alaska for Halibut fishing next year. Anyone had any experience with charters, lodges, etc. I'm thinking Halibut because I don't like to eat Salmon. Or is there possibly a better place one can catch a lot of fish and have a nice vacation?

I spent about 22 years up there and came down to the States in '90. Homer is a beautiful area and has had some tremendous Halibut caught out of there. It's within driving distance from Anchorage. You could probably do a search for good charter boat companies. Farther Southeast has some good fishing as well, but I have never fished farther South than Homer. I was a big salmon fisherman and didn't get along well with rolling seas. I usually ended up chumming for the other people on the boat, if you know what I mean. Maybe someone else who has lived up there more recently will be able to provide you with some additional areas and charter names. In Homer we always used to stay at Lands End Resort. It's out on the end of Homer Spit.
