Go into the 'resources' on this site and select 'grab bag' and then 'maintenace'...Mark Hoffman, aka MOFish, has an excellent list of things to do/look for on your boat...

A Nitro or Tracker.

If he can't get one by this weekend, then he'll have to use the Skeeter until he corrects the situation. :)

Tell him to make sure he has proper registration documents (or bill of sale/registration application) based on the local requirements.

Fire ext, horn on boat or whistle, paddle, throw cushion, life vests for every person on board, plus the other things that have been brought up.

Viena sausage, beef jerky, Ritz crackers, & bottled water. Oh yeah, Tums.

gas, oil, plugs, life jackets, a throwable flotation device, a working horn or whistle, tags, registration, anchor, oars or paddle, bow and stern lights, battery for tm, check all the trailer tie downs, wench strap condition, trailer tires, wheel bearings greased, check bilge pump operation, live well pump, steering cables condition, lower unit oil, water pump impeller condition, condition of carpeting on trailer bunks, check all fuel filters, trim fluid, tow rope, rope for tieing up to dock, depth finder operation, first aid kit, rain gear, tackle, fishing poles, fishing license, spare tire for trailer, check hitch and coupler on the tow vehicle/trailer, brakes on trailer, trailer lights operation, keys, any necessary lake permits, just to name a few things. might need a license depending on which state and insurance documentation. i probably forgot something but I gave it a try. might want to get a service manual on the motor if he wants to perform his own maint and repairs.

don't forget to take off the transom saver when launching the boat - as I did. Don't forget to put the plug in (this is really important) :^).

Am I really supposed to carry all that "stuff"?

Heck.....

All these years I've been keeping it so simple.....

Just a tube of silicone, channel locks and roll of duct tape.....

Maybe boats aren't as much fun as I always thought.....

If you plan on carrying all of that stuff on Mo's list, make sure you tow with a real truck with factory tow package and heavy duty cooling!! No Geo Metro's need apply!!

I want to see the Ohio River barge that Mo pulls with his TV-18 to carry all that stuff. LOL

Harpo

You guys laugh, but this list just goes to show how MUCH storage there is on a TV-18!!

Most of the stuff in the first list goes into a small backpack I stow in the front storage bin, along with the spare props, anchor, oil, ropes and PFD.

The "repair" tools go into the space underneath the bench seat, including my "briefcase" tool kit, and throwable seat cushion when it's not out and available. Mooring bouys and ropes, and the owners manuals are in one of the dry bins on the back deck.

Remember the Boy Scout motto: BE PREPARED. Wouldn't you rather be out in a boat with a guy who is ready to deal with contingencies than somebody who is depending on a tow-in, a roll of duct tape and a band aid?

Even with all this stuff, I can carry fishing rods, tackle, snacks and an assortment of clothing for the various conditions I might encounter.

So, laugh it up. (But think about it as you do.)

By the way, we leave tomorrow morning for a glorious WEEK of fishing!!!

Mo,

I wasn't laughing it up, I was just making a towing suggestion!! I usually keep my "stuff" in the boat during the season.
