LOOKING TO BUY A BOAT!!FOUND A 1994 NITRO 170TF WITH A 2001 YAMAHA 70TLR 17FT FOR $7,000..DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS IS A GOOD DEAL? WHAT IS THE VALUE? AND ARE THEY GOOD BOATS??

Back in 2000, I bought a 1995 170TF with a 75hp Merc. Both boat and motor were in great shape. The boat was great, ran about 42mph, only sold it to move to a bigger boat. Seems like your prospect is a bit high, even with the 01 motor.

I am with JP. Seems a little high for a 16 yo boat and a 10 year old motor. A 70 at that. Esp when you could get a boat like Treps (Look at swap and sell) for 6,500. Shop around. Snoop around the boat for any probs. Ask lots of Q's.

My .02

Without the newer engine NADA is around 2640 avg retail and base 90 engine. You should be able to get a much newer rig for that amount of money. Granted condition is very important, but it still is a 17 yr old boat.

Kass...Like Max said ... I would sure take a look at Trepman's 700DC that is on the swap and sell page on this site, looks like his is water ready and nice red color.....not sure where you are or where is is but I would give him a call....

Kass - Even if I wasn't selling mine, that is WAY too much for that boat even if its in really great shape. I would offer $4,500 if it is in good shape and settle for no more then $5k, realize that even with a newer motor you are still buying a 17 year old boat.

I think from your profile you are in Illinois so unfortunately no close enough to do a water test on my boat, but if you know anyone locally that could check mine out for you, i'd make you a deal on her.

Either way, enjoy shopping!

kass,

i own a nitro 882 and was shocked to see the values in NADA .com

my brother bought the same modle boat your taling about new 17years ago

for around 8,000 .

i bought my 882 with a 150 xr-6 used for $7200.

i think if you have the 7000 to spend you can do much better. you should check the asking prices aginst the nada.com value.

this will give you a better idea if what you are looking at is preiced correctly.

I agree with the rest. If that's your budgeted price, I'd keep looking. You should easily find more boat and a later model for that coin. Good luck! ;)

Kass, forgot to put my buying price on my 1995 170TF. I bought it in 2000 for $7,500. Only $500 more than you are looking at, but 12 years ago! Last year I bought a 1997 Skeeter ZX185c with a Yamaha 150 for $6,000. Your money will be much better spent, just look around on Bass Boat Central and other sites, you'll see the deals all the guys are talking about. Good Luck!

kass,

i dont know about were you live but up here in the northeast craigslist is one of the

best places to find a deal.

and a good place to find a home for things that you dont find usefull but another will.

GREAT RESOURCE.

:DI just bought a 94 170 DC with a 75HP Merc last Oct. for $4500. The boat and trailer are in perfect, near show room condition and had a lot of new items like: tires, batteries, lights on trailer, factory boat cover and the trailer is pretty much rust free. The motor has 128# compression on all three cylinders. Price was above NADA but I feel it was worth it. It does about 45mph with me and my fishin buddy with half tank of gas and fishin gear. Make sure you check for spongy spots in deck, check motor compression, check integrity of hull and transom by tapping it with a fiberglass hammer. It should bounce back. Shop around and do your homework and you will find what you are looking for. Send me an Em if you have any questions and I will try and answer them. Good Luck!:D
