OK The water pump on my 88 60hp Merc quit working properly while at Smith Mtn Lake in VA. My first thought is to lock it down for the winter, tear it a part in the spring and repair as needed. All I need to do is fog the engine andd it is ready for bed. With the nice weather we have had this week I have been thinking about pulling it a part, replaceing the impellar and go on from there. Symptoms No water pressure or tell tale at idle, picks up pressure and tell tale at about 2,000 rpm, looses both at about 3,500. The impellar is 3 years old.
I think I might have killed it when I started it before the VA trip. I got lazy and instead of hooking it up to a pressurized hose I hooked it to a rain barrel. It showed got tell tale and pressure then but I wonder if I might have damaged the impellar then.
