Trolling battery charging

Hey all, how important is it to loosen the caps of the batteries getting charged? My two trolling motor batteries are in a real tight spot and it's difficult to get at the cell caps. Thanks, Sean

I never have taken the caps off to charge. That's a throwback to the car batteries of old isn't it? I never take the caps off unless I am checking the level and I only add after the batteries are fully charged.

They factory caps are vented, it was the old screw in caps that were sealed. So there is no need to remove.
