TMAR's question regarding his speedometer got me to wondering. I recently added an Eagle 480 replaceing the the little H-bird that came on the boat. The paddle wheel speed sensor on the 'Bird got bashed on a stump along time ago but I was considering adding the speed sensor to the Eagle. How accurate is the paddle wheel speed sensor? I realize that it won't be as accurate as a GPS but are they even close? I think the distance travled would be good information.

Harpo. The paddle wheel is really good at slow speeds like trolling. At high speed they arent so good.

on my LMS332C I installed the speed sensor (paddle wheel) for accuracy while trolling. The GPS is not accurate under 10mph per Lowrance tech support. They also advised that the wheel is not accurate over 10mph..LOL
