Both the wife and I have really taken another look at what it would take to retire. Now that I've been through unemployment, losing a house, and a few more things - we are focused on being 'debt free' by the end of the year.
It has brought us to a new realization that the 'pull back' that we've done on spending and such, also brings with it new freedoms. It will still be a few years (pending any lotto wins that I might luck into), but when it comes to the last day that I work, this is what I'm going to do.
Come in one 'Tuesday' morning, and around 11:00AM or so, I'm going to tell 'whomever' is my manager this:
'I'm leaving for lunch. I won't be back. I'm done.'
After working all my adult life, I'll leave on my own terms.
