Go to " http://espn.winnercomm.com/ " and you can see how our Greg G. is doing. So far he's caught 6 fish and culled 1.:)

Just watched the Day 1 coverage on ESPN2.

1st and 2nd place have 29+ lbs. Big bags! Big fish was over 11 lbs.

Ike was disqualified for Day 1 due to unsportsman like conduct. He spazzed out on his boat and destroyed some flag holder or something on his boat. He had a light bag (11 lbs with a couple of dead fish) so probably figured he would resort to these type of antics to maintain his marketing value. He also culled a dead fish which doesn't sound like that would be allowed. The DQ was a good statement by BASS.

GREAT JOB BASS!!!!!!!! DQ HIM!!!!! BEST NEWS I HEARD ALL DAY!

Ike's livewells didn't work for some reason and his fish were suffocating. He dumped a bunch of "stuff" in the livewells to help the fish but then he exploded. I couldn't see what he tore up so maybe that was the flag holder? BUT, he did call in and ask if culling a dead fish was against the rules and was told that Florida may have such a rule but not B.A.S.S., Ike then dumped a dead Bass overboard. Shame on him and shame on Bass. I'll never pull for him again nor will I ever give B.A.S.S. any credence either. I'll be writing them as soon as I can.

And if this sort of things happens in a B.A.S.S. tourney what do you think happens in the hundreds of local tourney's all the time?

Uncle Billy

Guess he was DQ's for destroying "Safety equipment" Guess that was his running light that the flag was attached to. Prob going to get a ticket for putting that Dead Bass back in the lake. Maybe him and Jimmy Houston can start a company together? Jimmy can shoot the Drugged Deer in the pin and if it doesnt die, Ike can knock it over the head with his running light.

Max <><

I am booking my next fishing trip to Florida. Watching that did nothing but give me spring fever sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad. :p

Unless they changed the rules for the classic, culling a dead fish is an automatic DQ? If the live wells where not working he should have called for a back up boat, no excuse.

BF

I've always kind of liked Ike, but this temper tantrum put him over the edge for me. As a Army veteran and a patriotic citizen of the United States, I simply can't tolerate tossing the American flag overboard like that. Even those cheap .99 cent flags deserve respect. We have too many young men and women dying in some crap hole country for those antics.

Our boy KVD sure has a hole to climb out of. How about Clunn!!!!

I saw what happened on ESPN2's coverage of Day1. He was on a boat (Triton) that he was unfamiliar with (he fishes a Ranger). Apparently, he didn't flip the aeration button on and when he checked his fish, many were floating. He mumbled something which made it seem like he knew it was his mistake.

You could tell that this really sent him into a panic. With the camera right in his face, I think he showed some control iniitally but then lost it when he put the rejuvenade stuff in (he poured a ton of it in each livewell) and it was too late.

He cursed and then it looked like he grabbed the running light pole from the back of the boat, bent it and tossed it in the water. That pole apparently had the flag on it (you couldn't tell from the coverage that it had the flag on it)

At weigh in, you could tell he was not the usual Ike - remorse or anger? I don't know.

Hey, I've gotten pissed when I have been on the water and tossed a lure into the trees and I have noone watching me. He has the camera in his face and tons of spectators watching. I am not saying he was right (he wasn't) but I can understand how he would lose his composure. Denny Brauer lost control once in coverage of another event - the only difference was that he didn't break anything on the boat or throw anything overboard.

I think the real interesting thing was that when he went to the weigh-in, he was holding a bottle of Code Red Mountain Dew in one hand with the label clearly showing and really held it so you could see it. I wonder if he is sponsored by Mountain Dew?

I still like Ike but for his own good, he should show some contrition and apologize to the fans before it gets too far out of hand.

As far as KVD, I am hoping he makes a comeback today. The pundits said that this wasn't his style of fishing and that he has never done well down there but I was really rooting for him.

Bill, The Mad Kayaker

Hey Bill, The Mad Kayaker, I think that Mountian Dew is one of Ike's new sponsors, I believe that he had their logo on his shirt. Also, all of the Classic boats had the American Flag attached to the rear light pole.

Steve

Any time he makes the cut in a BASS event he fishes out of a Triton. How can he be unfamiliar with the controls? He screwed up big time, plain and simple.

I just saw it on espn2

you know its too bad that he does some stupid things like this.

He got what he deserved for doing what he did and with the flag on there really didnt do much for my opinion of him,i personally dont like his attitude anyway but he is an exceptional fisherman and yes i think he should apologize for his actions too.

Good morning....looks like Ike is out anyway after watching coverage this morning. He would have to make a big, big, comeback. I am pulling for KVD but its not looking good at this point. The local guy seems to be fishing well and now that the weather is going to change, he should know the water well enough to adjust....we'll see....Kenny

I doubt he even thought about the flag. At that point he was focused on breaking the light pole. With that much money on the line I would have went for something more expensive like bashing the outboard or something with an anchor (not really) but if I go down that way I would at least get my money's worth.:D

Personally I don't like the everyone in the same boat deal. Why should Triton reap all that exposure just because they are willing to put up all that money. I would love to see all the different brands of boats competing myself.

Oh well I still respect every last one of myself. ESPN doesn't have to show every little thing that a human being does bad. It would be real hard for me to be perfect with that much money on the line. What's next, following a guy a the bank when he has to take a dump?

Clark

I personally don't want to hear anyone taking up for that New Jersey baby Iaconneli for any reason. He needs someone to put him over there knee for a good spanking. I had a hard time pulling for him at all because I didn't like his antics. Now I just think he's a spoiled brat idiot who doesn't deserve a second of my time. And this was before I knew about the flag. Some of you may make the argument that he didn;t know a flag was on that pole. Well, that's the only way you'll defend him and just to yourself. He's so aware of everything else out on the water don;t tell me he didn't notice the flag.

I went to a fishing flea market today and there were actually guys there trying to defend him. It didn't go over very big and they learned very fast they better shut up. Ioconelli lost it big time and he better do something "big time" to beg forgiveness from the fishing community.

Another thing that bothered me today was all of these guys talking about culling dead fish and that they do it all the time in their local tourneys. Shame on them and any one else that does it.

Uncle Billy

Just my opinion Uncle Bill don't get too excited. You don't have to tell me about the flag with my 11 years of military service.

I didn't mean to affend you in any way. Sorry Bill

OOh Rah! Clark

Clark, I didn't mean in any way to insinuate that you offended me because you didn't. Just a friendly discourse about what happened at the classic. So having said that, you did NOT offend me in any way so there is no reason to be sorry.. OOh Rah! and thanks for your service.

I shouldn't let Ike get to me but he does. If I get too excited Clark, I'll fall out of my chair and squirell around like a turtle until I get help. So, likewise, if I offended you I apologize.

Uncle Billy

Feburary 25, 2005. Mark this day down...this is the day that Bill and I agree 100%!!

I've never liked the jackass, Iaconneli that is, and dislike him even more now. They said on Bass Center this morning that yesterday he had around 30 or 40 spectator boats following him but this morning nobody was following him. 'bout right

Harpo

I thought it was interesting that Denny B. talked about the incident on Friday. He noted that he felt Ike crossed the line but that he was under a lot of pressure. He said he was going to have a heart to heart talk with him that evening, because he felt that they had a close friendship.

Then when asked about the issue on Sat. mornings coverage by Tommy Sanders, he seemed totally disgusted with Ike and did not want to give him any more attention by discussing the issue any more. Perhaps the heart to heart didn't go well?

RoyC

Did anyone catch the bit on Day 2 when they were showing Davy Hite (I think it was him) out fishing? It was the 'bit' footage they show of the angle during his weigh-in...?

He caught his first fish, put it in the livewell, and proceeded to turn the aerator on...then he made some comment to the camera about "these livewells work just fine when you turn them on!"

Hilarious!

az

On Sunday morning, Tommy Sanders made some comment about Ike and Denny said something like, "anyone finishing in 51st place doesn't deserve to be discussed". Zinnnnnnng:lol:

Harpo

I thought that Denny was very, very critical. I also think that it's very hard to switch from a competitor/angler to a broadcaster. For Denny, he doesn't make that transistion very well.

Tex

I don't condone what Ike did at all, but let's get real,

1) at first I was mad at the fact that he kicked a pole down that was holding the American Flag, but I think "Clark" said he probably didn't notice the flag and I agree he kicked something it just happened to be holding the flag, I sincerely doubt he was disrespcting the American Flag, if you think that was his intention (to disrespect our flag) then time for a head exam. IMHO.

2) He won on publicity - Hands down, he got more publicity than any other Pro's out there those three days.

3) Who was the guy who won the classic??? Exactly, did you notice he let the American flag drag along the deck of the boat? I did. He also said, "I didn't cuss like Ike", on Day 2 during his weigh in, (arse smoocher, if you ask me)

4) You never forgot to turn on the livewell, or something else on your boat??? I doubt that very much.

5) Did he have a fit, yes, would most people have a fit? Yes, $500k on the line, again if you would not get mad at yourself for that error, time for the exam.

6) Lets put blame where it belongs, ESPN was the one who covered the event, Ike didn't want that on TV,? Blame ESPN for coverage at nauseum.

7) The first DQ was voluntary

8) If you think the other Pros don't have fits, think again, that fact that Ike is a "Household" name in BASS is the reason it was on TV. Nobody cares if 80% of the field curses or has a fit during the classic. If Ike does it , it's newsworthy. Does anybody remember J. Bitter a couple years ago, having a fit because somebody was in his spot

It's easy to not like Ike, I'm not sure if I like him, but...... it's not because ESPN decided to expoit his anger on TV to the FAN base of BASS, it's not because he culled dead fish, or certainly not because he forgot to turn on his livewell, I feel bad for him for the oversight, with $500k on the line, I might have been a lot worse than Ike.

I'm not going to get into specifics on the internet,..but I talked to a couple of people who saw the WHOLE incident take place.....and IKE was a complete and total IDIOT to do what he did!

He embarrased the hell out of a LOT of his fellow competitors, his sponsors and fans alike......he did NOT set a very good example for a bunch of kids within earshot of his immature tyrade!! This is not the first time he's done this..but rest assured...this will COST him FAR more than he'll ever gain from it. I'm sure a number of his sponsors will come down on him like a ton of bricks....there's no way they're going to approve of it! The handfull of fans who still "approve and condone" this type of behavior from a professional are sadly misguided too...If he wants to do that crap,..then he belongs in the WWF,...NOT BASS or the FLW! Just the fact that he split after saturday and didn't dare show his face in the show proves he was wrong and he knows it!! That dude needs to get his act together in a hurry or he'll be dusting shelves at Dick's full time!

However....here's an opportunity for him to market himself in a different direction and pick up a few new sponsors.

Paxil

Prozac

Wellbutrin.....etc.

The new, nicer Mike.

I think what Ike did was intentional to draw attention on Fri since he realized he would be out of the running. He had a lot of attention on Fri as a result, but on Saturday's coverage, ESPN didn't show his weigh-in or any highlights with Ike from that day. His sponsors won't like that. Its obvious that ESPN did this to be consistent with their message that BASS wont tolerate that type of behavior.

It was a taped video, it was not live, how hard is this to understand???????????

ESPN choose to play it several times as well as discuss it several times, it has nothing to do with what BASS tolerates, BASS used it as a promotional stunt, it worked, were still talking about it.

They (ESPN) were asked to not show any of it......they said no way...we WANT to show it.

Yep, coverage the ass gets..again. But Mac hit the nail on the head. The guy is too immature to stand up for his actions (sounds like that is a societial problem maybe???), he swooped after Saturday! How well do you think his sponsors are "rewarding" him now?

It matters NOT if he "noticed" the flag on the pole. Again, points back to being responsible for his actions, which he is not. Weather you "notice" you are committing two wrongs in one act does not matter, the act is still wrong.....

Carlos

Chris, the reason that nobody likes Ike is because he's from New Jersey......;) JUST KIDDING JUST KIDDING.

I think ESPN has every right to show what Ike did and is in fact oblogated to show why he was DQ'ed. For one reason it's news, since when do we want the news/sports media to censor what we see. Another reason is if they didn't show it then more accusations of playing favorites because Ike is so popular. No matter what ESPN does they aren't going to make everybody happy so they might as well report the incident and let the tape tell the tale. I don't think it was aired any more than the story about Mark Menendez going down with hepatitus and his recovery.

In my opinion Ike is a jackass and always has been. I will forever remember seeing him have his little hissy tantrum after sitting a thinking about what to do and then fishing the flag out of the water with the back of his shirt boldly advertising...Ranger, Yamaha, Yamalube, Dick's Sporting Goods. I'll guarantee he is the only pro angler I can name that many of their sponsors. I don't think that's what they pay him for. He's an embarassment.

Just my opinion...I could be wrong.

Harpo

Trep, Ike and viagra? I hope not. He's a big enough weenie already.:p In my opinion there is NO way he can say he didn't know there was a flag on his light post. He chose to ignore it, or didn't care in the heat of his fit.

Gene

Jsut to be sure, so everyone is on the same page, I WOULD NEVER CONDONE any disrespect to our Flag, what I was saying is that he may not have done it with the intention of the flag going in the water or falling on the floor.

Harpo, I did not see the part with him contemplating to pick up the flag out of the water.

I never said I liked him either, I'm just trying to say the Media made it bigger than it was, or not? I was not there.
