I'm not sure if this has been addressed here or not. But why did they discontinue what seems to be one of their more popular hulls Again? So if you want a 19' boat you have to buy the 901.

If they took it out because of competition with the 901, I think the 898 will be even more competition. 20'4" for $28565.00 with a 200 opti compared to $29665.00 for the 901 and 200opti. $1100.00 more for a smaller boat. Are the bells and whistles worth it??

What would you guys and gals do?? Buy the 19'2" 901 or the 20'4" 898?

John, I entirely agree with your lament. I said this a couple of years ago when I first perceived the jump in price between the 882 and the 901 was just too much of a gap for the product lineup. The 896 was the perfect fit for that gap. But, in fairness to Tracker, perhaps they had to stop producing the 896 in order to get on with longer term goals. Sometimes you can't move in a straight line from point A to point B.

John,

I did exactly that, sold a 2001 901 and ordered a 2003 898 w/225 efi and loaded, hydro steering, hotfoot, tandem, upgrade graphs & trollmotor, more extras, $29,831 drive out. Bigger boat, bigger engine, and comprable pkg. not an opti though but still a hell of a pkg.

The 896 savage was the best boat to date, just my 2 pennies. KENNY

John,

Easy, just buy the BassCat....then you won't have to second guess between boats,har.....

See ya soon...

Well Tom, If I can get the Cougar for what I can get a 898 for then I might have to look at it a lot closer. But I have a strange feeling it's not starting under 30K..

Haven't heard back from Boss yet, Will let you know if I got the time off to fish in March with you.

See ya

John,

Which Boss do you have to ask? "The" boss or the boss??

Tell "the" boss I said Hi!!

Bob G.

Well the Boss at home says I need to go fishing. And She says Hi to you too.

Now the Boss At work is the one that might mess this up. But I have almost 300 hours of vacation time, So I think he will let me take TWO nights off. Or I might just have to use some of the 90+ hours of sick time I need to use. I think I feel a cold coming on around the 13th of March.. sniff sniff...cough..cough..;0)

So when you coming back to the west coast Bob? Or am I going to have to fly over there?

Say hello to the family.

John

i would think the 896 to be one of Nitro's more popular boats and one of the highest values. it is a "different" boat in the line up with a 92" beam which is more standard in the industry. might be a case that this boat is so much different that they cannot be as productive with the resources they have and may be trying to "standardize" parts, pieces, and work processes. may not be true though as the 898 is quite a bit different than the 9 series boats too and kind of gave you an alternative in the pricing lineup. i liked the 896 also.

John,

I have seen the 898 and I'm glad it is replacing the 896.This is an awsome ride. They have really cleaned up the stripes and graphics on the hull and it looks great. I had heard they hired a man from Champion and he has changed the way they prepare the molds and that is why the stripes are cleaned up.
