Where to mount transducer for 798c SI

Hello all, I'm trying to decide were to mount the transducer for my Humminbird 798c SI. Should I mount in on the "step" where the original tranducer mount is loacted or a few inches above on the hull. I have seen it mounted both ways. I have a 25 HP motor so speed is not a factor. Greg do you have an opinion? I have a 2005 Tracker PT 175. Thanks

I have mine mounted the way it is shown in the first photo you refer to on my PT 190 TX. I get good depth readings even on plane at WOT.
