What is a "tunnel hull" anyway?

Tunnel Hulls will get you in real shallow water, but they can be a bear to handle WOT and they also have much lower max HP ratings vs same boat / manufacter / model. I have never owned one, but researched it a while ago when was looking at them..

The picture I posted is not like the tunnel hull you are looking at, but it gives you the idea. The tunnel hull on a flats boat will direct water to a higher mounted outboard to enable it to run shallower that a standard hull. It does this by splitting the hull design to form a tunnel of water similar to the picture I posted.

I had one on a 16 foot Ebco Stinger speedboat. Had a 135 Merc on it (back when they looked like baby grand pianos). Talk about a fast hull!! And the way they are designed (at least mine was) the faster you went, the more convex suction there was between the hull and the water, which meant it tracked like a slot car. I could throw anybody out of the boat at any given time with the right manuver. We used it strictly for sking. Dangerous in chop and rode like a flat board. Prone to launch outta the water also....keep in mind this was an older boat with a racing hull. If I wanted to dump you off of your ski's....you were going down!!LOL

Note to self...

Go Fishing with Toxic, NEVER go skiing with Toxic...

Got it.

That may be a lethal combo....perhaps checking with the dept of defense first would be a good idea.

We have property on a 95 +/- acre lake and a guy has a 22 ft tunnel hull with a 250 on it that has the equvelant of a 300. Needless to say its a little fast for that little lake. Its so fast out of the hole he cant even pull a skier behind it...all its good for is stirring up the baitfish and gettin' us bass fisherman ticked off.
