RT meaning Radial Tracker right? That's what I have and like them too. Bought 'em to match the boat! JK, came with the truck! I'll never buy Coopers again though.
imho its michelin ltx all the way. ive had the good year wrangler rt/s tires on three trucks from the factory and have hated them every time. When the set on mynew dodge wears out they will be replaced with michelin ltx m/s tires. in my opinion michelin is a superior tire.
I've got 90,000+ on a set of MTR's and they look like they could go another 40. Not the best "Off-Road" tire, they are on a Jeep Wrangler, but they wear like IRON. Put them on new @70,000 and now have 160,000. Can't complain. Never had a flat but for some reason, they wouldn't swim across a pond.
I dislike Goodyear tires, I think that the factory tires are terrible. In the last 8 years I pulled Goodyear's off of 3 out of 4 of my Dodge Ram pickups. I would pull them off my 2002 Ram but I am stuck with the set of 275/60R20 Goodyear's that came with it until someone else starts to manufacture that size tire or I will have to change out the rim. I will give it a year then something will have to give. I prefer Bridgestone or Dunlop's as I have been running Dunlap's and recently switched to a Bridgestone on my 99 Ram which I like allot and hope to be able to purchase for the new Ram.
Bear, you didn't mention the vehicle or type of driving you do.
For pure highway, the Michelin Cross Terrain is excellent. I have them. They provide a great ride on pavement. But they won't help you in off road situations.
I have a 4x2, and I just recently started needing to pull trailers on a dirt road. I've gotten stuck a couple of times. I'm ditching the Michelins in favor of Pirelli Scorpion ATs, which is more of a compromise tread pattern. It's a highly regarded tire and it's reasonably priced. Yokahoma Geolanders and BFGoodrich All Terrain KO are also top rated (the BFGs are very expensive).
I had Firestone Wilderness ATs before the Ford recall. I thought they were great tires. Tenacious grip in bad conditions, but a very reasonable highway ride. Oh, well.
Changing pull vehicles often, I make sure that Michellins are underneath. XTC's and ATC's are great dual purpose tires with incredible longevity. Rotated and balanced regularly (6-8K mi.) I have never had a problem with a Michellin tire. After 25-30K mi. they still look new. Just my $.02.
I've never had much life from a goodyear tire, and I recently had a set of Dunlop APT II's that were awful.. Being the cynical person that I am, I decided this time to try an 'off-brand' tire. : The expensive ones sucked, so how much worse could they be??
I bought Mastercraft Courser A/T's for $100/ea (not bad for 33x12.50's!) and I've actually been very pleased so far!! They grip well and appear to be wearing OK after about 6000 miles.. In fact, I'm not sure if I'll ever go with a 'high-line' tire again!!!
