Ok guys check it out.. I came across a 98 896 with a 200 efi on it.

The guy just emailed me some pictures of the boat. It seems that it has some scratches on the hull. Other then that she is in good conditon. Right now he is asking 15k should I talk him down some more? I'm thinking i should try for like 14k. LMK what ya think. Some pictures of the scratches are below.

Here is another one... These scratches can be buffed out right?

Jason, that's a good price. Buzz's is a '97 for $14k. But they will ALL have scratches if they've been used at all. Don't worry about it, they add character! LOL But usually people are willing to come down a little. If you can get it for a little less, do it! Say, Buzz, if this '98 goes for $14K, you and I have to talk about your asking price! LOL

Thanks for advice Rob... I just called them up and and told them if they take another 500 off I'll pick her up by friday. The guy is going to call me right back. Hmmm I might be having a boat reallll soooon... :)

I have to say this board is great! Nothing beats it.

Rob, Jason's first post that they wanted 15K and he was going to try and talk him down to 14K, it didn't say that he did.. Also I know what I got into mine..

Hey, I wouldn't worry about those scratches at all. If your boat doesn't have them, then you haven't been fishing!! ;^)

Just stuff from logs. Black just shows them up better. Good deal. Man, I want a 200.....................sa

Thanks guys... Haven't heard back just yet from him, but then again my line was tied up. I dunno these scratches have me tossing and turning over here. One hand is telling me to grab this boat and the other hand is saying hold off and wait til ya find one without so many scratches...

I just don't know what to do.

Jason -

Scratches ARE a way of life with a bass boat! If they are just scratches and not "gouges" - Forget 'em, man! If not, and you do any kind of fishin' around stumps and stick-ups, you'll spend all your time trying to buff scratches and never get to do any fishin'!

me!

Another way to think about it. I felt BAD the first time I svratched my boat on a underwater barge. Nothing bad, just bad looking. Now, soemone has already done that for you, so you can ENJOY the boat and not feel too bad if and when you scratch it.

Jason - I have a black hull and can tell you from experience those little white scratches will drive you crazy. From what I can see on the pics, they can be taken out/covered over. Get some of that car wax that has the color in it. Works real well on my black hull.

Thanks guys! I am still undecided, but will make my descion tomorrow based on some more pictures. If all goes well I might end up at least going out to look at it on friday.

We shall see...

Jason,

Remember it is getting close to the end of the season and he may be more anxious to sell the boat than he is showing. You might want to try the waiting game and let this guy make the move. If he doesn't sell the boat he will need to do something with it over the winter. He might want it sold before he hits the boat shows.

Just my .02

Scratches, yeah that's a way of life. Nothing looks serious. Check out the motor w/ a fine tooth comb. Run compression and if there is more than 5 points difference then you may have to take it to an independant mechanic that you trust to make sure it's ok. Find out how many hours are on it and try to get the maintanace records. A new 200 hp will a ton of money. Oh, see if you can get any warranty and change the water pump.

Buzz, that was just the BEGINNING of my pay back for your little post the other day. Better toughen up big fella, you stepped in it big this time! LOL You just WAIT until this weekend. You're fair game buddy! LOL Your boat's worth every penny of $14k, I just had to razz ya a little. But again, this is just the start! You stooped lowwwww!!!!LOL

good to hear that you located a boat jason. most will come down a grand real quick or more around here as it varys from boat to boat. don't let those scratches bother you one bit as long as they are not into the glass. check out the trailer real good also.
