OK so this is not a boat question, but I figure the adhesive should be something that would also work on a boat. I have a fiberglass hot tub and one of the fiberflass fittings for a drain plug come completely off. Think of a fiberglass tube that broke in half. I must have kicked it too many times (tub is 7 years old and I use it almost every night).

So, i've got to drain the tub and find an adhesive that will bond the 2 pieces of fiberglass back together and then stay together under water upto 104 degrees with constant water pressure - any ideas???

Michael, 3M 5200 is a very strong underwater marine adhesive/sealant, but it sounds like the joint is not going to be supported by anything else. That will make it pretty weak.

What about replacing the fiberglass with an equivalent piece of PVC?

Or, repairing the fiberglass with epoxy and more fiberglass? Use some epoxy to join the two halves together (still weak because of lack of structural support), then, when dry, coat the area with more epoxy, wrap with a cut piece of fiberlgass cloth, and saturate with epoxy.

Temperature will not pose a problem for any of these solutions, nor will water.

Wow,.....after all that glassin' and epoxy,...i'll send you a small Nitro Decal to put on it after it dries! LOL (seriousley, that would work,....I'd try the PVC route first for a quick and easy fix,..then the meesy way as a last resort,.....either way will work in my opinion)

Oh lord, Mac...... I just had a visual that NOBODY should have at 6:30 in the morning.......... Trepper's scrawney, little southern ass sittin' in the hot tub, steam floatin' up into the fridgid (50 degree) Atlanta night....... Nekid! Passin' gas!!

A-a-a-aggggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!

yeah,..it's bad enough that YOU had that visual,...and it's worse that you had to SHARE it!! DAYUM!!

OK Scott add to that a nice COLD homebrewed India Pale Ale in a frosty mug, no clouds and the stars and moon are out!

And I DON'T want to hear about scrawny from YOU SCOTT!

Tub is drained, gotta cleaner her out good and hit Home Depot.

ahhhh HA! Now that the tub is drained I can see it is actually a PVC pipe NOT fiberglass (I thought the fitting looked like too clean of a break for fiverglass). Its comming from the inside guts of the tub so I can't get to the inside to replace the hole pipe. Sending Beka to Home Depot this morning with the broken end to ask how to seal PVC material back together.

Rich and everyone else thanks for a quick response. With any luck this scrawny neekid guy will be back in his tub tomorrow night!

Oh and Scott - It's 65 degree's right now with a high expected of 70! Got a striper trip planned on sunday !

You use the same PVC glue the plumber uses when he's putting PVC pipes in a house. Liquid stuff that just paints on. But the part will require some sort of sleeve or coupler over the broken section to provide strength.

Scott, really, in this case, you could have kept your imagination to yourself.

Huh? Whadaya mean "India Pale Ale"?

You mean a properly aged (stored in a rusty, old fridge on the front porch) can of Billy Beer!

WOW!!!!!

And, HEY, didn't one of these participants (won't mention names) unfairly accuse me of having "unusual fantasies" under another thread?

Trep, if you use that PVC glue that Rich mentions, please be sure to let it dry before you sit down in the tub.

Hope the repairs are successful.

Mark

Rich - Problem is there is no place to put a sleeve since it is where the pipe actualy comes out of the tub base where it broke. I'll try the PCV glue, let it set and filler up and TRY not to kick it tomorrow night.

Mac - You tell'em!

Scott - For you WAY UP 'Northers just think of PBR with a KICK!

Update on Hot Tub = Used PVC Epoxy and sealed it up fine. Hot tub is filled and COLD! Water from the garden hose filled her up and was 49 degree's! She's been heating since 6:30pm tonite (2 1/2 hours ago) and only up to 67 so going to have to wait till I get back tomorrow night from my Striper trip on Lanier to user her. Hopefully my arms and back will be killing me from horsing in those big bass!

Thanks for everyone's help and wish me luck tomorrow, i've not caught a fish in the last 3 outings!

Thanks Scott, coming from you that's a compliment!

Tub is warmed up to 104, chemicals are balanced and it's time for a dip!

I did catch 2 nice spotted bass (one 15 inches and one 13 3/4 inches. both on downlined shinners while fishing for stripers (no stripers yet) and a nice LM caught in 2 foot of water on a Shad Rap fire-tiger on a secondary point! Hey that's the first 3 fish of 2002 for me!

It's kinda like when I go out with a truck driver to test a rig he's thinking of buying....... Transmissions are funny in heavy-duty trucks; they all seem to have their own personalities. You've got to drive them for a bit to figure out just where each gear is and when to shift and how much to delay the shift between gears....... So, when they get in and start grinding - I tell them that "I always feel much better when I see a Professional Driver grinding 'em - just like I do!"

Hey, Michael...... You know I respect you! Heck, if I didn't I wouldn't have teamed up with you for the match with Big John....... Big BAD John! (You know, the guy at home in the apron asking Stacey if he can bring she and Susan anything!)

:^)

me!
