Ok guys got some questions on water pressure. My buddy just bought a boat with a 2004 90hp ELPTO SERIAL # 0t917420 Family 4m9xm00851c0 (all the numbers he gave me). He just had a new water pump installed and the tell-tale is putting out great water. He says the water pressure at idle is 5 - 10, when he throttles up it goes to 10-15 then all of the sudden back to 5, then jumps up and down. What do you guys think? Debris in line, faulty guage? Almost forgot he says he gets a solid warning horn when he goes from idle to higher throttle but if he comes back to idle the horn will extinguish. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. :)

I will tell him to have the thermostat and poppet changed. I will report back after he gets that done. Is that a pretty simple job or should it be done by a marine shop?

Thanks Bob for all your help.

VERY simple. Top of block aside / above number one plug. Remove cover and associated parts, re-assemble and test. ;)

Bob, the thermostat and poppet are changed. He will run it Saturday and I will report back to you. Thanks again!:)

This is what our 2005 Merc Optimax EFI was doing. Turned out to be the air pump assembly that needed to be replaced. It was running along around 50-60mph, then the engine suddenly quit. Afterwards, would only run at around 5-15mph with a continuous warning beep. Currently looking for a new air pump assembly on line to help reduce the costs of repairing the boat.

PS: Bob, any ideas where I might find such a part?
