Water Fuels Separator

Mercury 150XL is the engine. For winterizing, what should I be doing as part of the process with the water/fuel separator? Drain and replace for winter or just drain and replace in spring? I have one more fishing trip the first week of October and then winterizing. I was thinking I should fill the tank with good fuel and winterizing additives before the trip and run through the engine and refill with same after trip. Sound like a good plan? Thanks, Sean
