water circulation

I have a 2002 150 xr6 merc. it usualy runs about 1-2 minutes before it starts to circulate water and at idle it shows no water pressure but it is coming out the pee hole. When i run the motor it shows 7-8 on the pressure guage. should i get a new water pump or is this normal? thanxs for any help.

If your unsure of the age of the water pump it wont hurt it at all to change it. From the sounds of it you are due, 7-8 psi at speed is way too low. You may also want to change the thermostats and poppet as well.



As far as pressure goes when i had my Xr6 it would just dribble out of the pee hole when it was cold but at idle i had ~5 psi at idle and 15-20 wide open depending on trim position.
